I bought these as a do-everything snow pant. Most of the time I spend in the snow is resort skiing but I also like to do some mountaineering and snowshoeing. I can only justify having one pair of snow pants so I settled on these. The fit is very good for skiing and active outdoor pursuits but the pockets left a bit to be desired for resort skiing. I had a hard time fitting all of my belongings in them. They likely took pockets out to save weight on the pants but I would have appreciated some more room to fit things.

I really wish these had a pocket on the left-hand side and that the pocket was separated farther from the vent zippers. I've put my keys down the vent a few times, and of course they just fall out my pant leg. They're quite solidly made and work great, otherwise.

The difference between 30 and 300, is justified as the difference between rain shell and hard shell. Choosing a hard shell comes down to two factors: durability and breathability. Rain shells feel like plastic and will work for the average user. Buy a hard shell if you really need one. After 2 x 3-4 hour hikes with zodiac boats, and water/beach landings in Greenland, unlike the socks (due to rubber boots), my pants weren't soaked due to sweat, so the breathability claim is justified. The Cordura PowderCuff adjuster slides over the boot to help protect the pant and seal out water. I like the pants. I didn't rate it five stars, since the belt could be improved. The belt works as advertised, but I can conceive of several improvements. Durable Water Repellents, are simply a hydrophobic coating, its biggest threats are dirt and bodily oils, so there are washing instructions. GORE-TEX products come with an unconditional lifetime warranty, and this explains the high price point. You can return any product at any point if you're dissatisfied with its performance. This includes all issues that pertain to water resistance, durability, and breathability. No other waterproof breathable manufacturer offers the same warranty. I have tested them more thoroughly in the Irish rains, they function great, in any case you can re-apply the DWR coating using a (super) hydrophillic coating. Choosing this pant, makes you an all-rounder, you might want to choose active shell if you're perform in high output activities of shorter duration. My jeans have size 32/32, L Regular fits good over my jeans.
