Review: Surprisingly funny, very informative - I don't typically write reviews, but man this is a good book. I guess I kinda expected it to be dry and humorless given it's a book about metal detecting, but that is not the case. The author presents the info in a way that's easy to understand for a total beginner and it's funny! I was not expecting to laugh while reading this book but I did multiple times. The amount of info within is really impressive as well. All in all a great book and well worth it. Review: Metal Detecting Handbook - Very informative alot of good info if your new to metal detecting.

Excellent work hobby of metal detecting! Book includes other methods used in conjunction in order !
This is another great book on metal detecting. However, I am disappointed in the fact this book, along with others, does not mention things like "dowsing" that can in fact most likely be utilized in conjunction with this hobby- thus 4-stars! For those interested I would recommend the following on dowsing, in particular map dowsing, as perhaps a way to find areas to metal or relic detect: -"Dowsing for Beginners: How to Find Water, Wealth & Lost Objects" (For Beginners (Llewellyn's)) Paperback โ March 3, 2012 -"Ley Lines of the UK and USA: How Ley Lines were used by the Church, Royalty, City Planners and the Freemasons" Paperback โ June 12, 2014 by David Cowan (Author), Anne Silk (Author) Both books along with others are available at Amazon.com, and contain how to information as well as a good history of how dowsing has been utilized in history by world military's- to include the US, particularly in Vietnam. Furthermore some of the following might be useful if one attempts this in-conjunction tips and techniques contained in this book for metal detectors: -"Dowsing Rod Copper -Solid Material 99% - Ghost Hunting, Divining Water, Gold, Buried Items, etc. Instructions and Bonus Pendulum - 5x13 Inch โ Non-Toxic" -"Crystal Pendulum Made of Natural Tiger's Eye Gemstone for Dowsing Divination Chakra Reiki. Pointed with Chain and Jewelry Pouch" by Polar Jade The above are mere examples and available among others at Amazon.com, if one should want to attempt this in conjunction suggestions in this book? Finally, per the internet thermal imaging, is being utilized by archaeologist's etc. to find multiple different medium objects underground. One may want to attempt this as well, with something like FLIR C2 - Compact Thermal Camera by FLIR, as an example and available at Amazon.com. This book, all in all is great on metal detecting and in fact includes a chapter on the different manufacturers of metal detectors like Fischer, MineLab, Garrett, Whites etc..... It also contains useful information about ground balancing, sensitivity, and coil and different detector types and what best utilized for. I think a book that is kind of out-of-the box thinking and includes other methods in addition to just metal detectors is probably in order in the 21-st Century given varying old and new technologies, ergo 4-Stars. Excellent work overall on the hobby of metal detecting! Of Note: On pages 184-185 the author lists the "Major [US] Gold Producing States" with California being Number one and North Carolina being Number 13 as well as the "Secondary List of Gold Producing States" with Alabama and Georgia being number one and two respectively! PS: might also want to see at Amazon.com: "Empath: A Complete Guide for Developing Your Gift and Finding Your Sense of Self" Paperback โ November 28, 2017 by Judy Dyer (Author)

METAL DETECTING... by Mark Smith
What should other customers know? Well, I think you should know what's in this book. Many years ago, my work required me to use a metal detector, It was a pretty simple machine compared to the far more advanced design of my current machine. I certainly can recommend this book to beginners, but it's got a lot of information for anybody that can be helpful. It contains a great deal of information, as well as the author's personal knowledge and experience. I still like to refer to it from time to time. The only other book I have actually purchased to hang onto is "The Metal Detecting Bible, 2nd Edition. I am glad I bought both of these books. Together, I have certainly updated my knowledge of my hobby, finding history beneath your feet. Good stuff!

Helpful, practical tips and fun to read
I have never written a book review before, but enjoyed this so much I just had to write. I am relatively new to metal detecting and panning for gold - I found this book well organized, informative and FUN to read. Will make good use of the tips he provides. He uses his own entertaining personal stories to make his tips memorable. The author has such an enjoyable writing style, great sense of humour - I think it would be a blast to spend time searching with him!

What an awesome book on metal detecting.
This book is packed full of useful information for the beginner (me) in metal detecting or as he likes to call it "Finding Treasure". He covers it all from detectors to what, where and why, and I found it to be a very easy read.
