Durable cups and lids that can be reused repeatedly
I'm a repeat purchaser of these fruit fly culture cups. I'm also cheap, and I wash and reuse these cups and lids until the cups finally crack and the lid's fabric lining becomes too thin to contain flies. Despite constant use, I still have most of my first order of ten cups and lids from 2022. I've also used them for housing the occasional jumping spider that I find indoors in the winter months, when it's too cold to toss 'em back outside.

Project Bucket ‘O’ Spiders was a success
Got a regal jumping spider female. Seller said she was bred and not wild caught. They lied. I now had a bimonthly subscription to the Bucket O Spiders club. I needed to make both fruit fly cultures AND contain slings (baby spiders / spiderlings) in containers that were breathable but with NO GAPS to slip through. For spiderlings, flip upside-down and elevate on a wire rack (so that the air filter on bottom can breathe. You can poke tiny pinholes for extra air using a very thin gauge needle. This should hold your slings for a few weeks (people advise separating them before this but I luckily didn’t have much of an issue). For flies, leave right-side up and use as intended. You can reuse these if you have the stomach to wash them after the fruit fly medium inside… marinates and degrades. The containers themselves are sturdy enough for reuse. Filters can be lightly scrubbed to clean most residue off (contaminants would still be present, so not a good practice if you’re a research lab). Worked great for the 8 Buckets O Spiders I had to raise and their endless supply of food I had to raise (both drosophila melanogaster and drosophila hydei. Never did bottle flies though). Honestly? If you like bugs, these are great to just have on hand. Much better than the Jar of Doom (jar with holes in lid).

Good product and people
Got the cups all arrived, no cracks or dents. Lids fit. I was sent the wrong lids, but they messaged and said they would send out the right ones😊

Different lids this time
Lids Don't fit cups, this time recieved tiny whole lids. They don't fit cups. Cups crush easy fighting to put on lids. The left override which are the bigger wholes don't fit either so might be a different deli cups than before. Afraid to order more. I'm going to try and stretch them out, this my 7th order 1st time the cup size seems off.

Decent but not perfect option for fruit fly cultures
The Josh’s Frogs 32 oz Fruit Fly Cup and Vented Lid – 20 Pack is a solid choice if you need a lot of containers for culturing or housing fruit flies. The size is convenient for maintaining multiple batches, and the vented lids do help with airflow compared to non-vented options. Having 20 in a pack makes it easy to organize several cultures at once without constantly washing and reusing. That said, the plastic feels pretty lightweight, and if you’re handling them a lot you have to be careful not to crack the rims or lids. They’re functional for everyday use, but don’t feel as durable as heavier-duty containers. Overall, a decent, convenient set for basic fruit fly work — just manage expectations on longevity.
