My laptop has an SD reader slot, but after some issues with my OS (Win10), it stopped working. An OS issue, or a true mechanical failure, I don't know, and I do know I don't want to open up my laptop to fiddle with the reader. This USB adaptor works right out of the box, plugged in to USB 2.0 and 3.0 "A" jacks. Downsides: (1) the SD slot is along the length of the adaptor, so an inserted card needs clearance when plugging the adaptor into the jack. Perhaps 1/2 - 5/8 inch. USB A jacks are not symmetrical, so you can't turn the adaptor over like you could a "C" jack. (2) the adaptor has a male A plug and a micro USB plug (which will work with many phones). Each jack has a pull-off cap. I like to see caps secured with a cord, so they don't get lost. That can be fixed by hotgluing a rubber band to the cap and adaptor body easily enough. So, a good solution if your computer (or cellphone) doesn't have an SD slot, or your SD reader has stopped working due to OS or mechanical issues.

Felt a little cheep but did the job right, it could connect to micro and normal sd cards. It read the cards perfectly. Very small but the caps would not fit perfectly.

Works great, doesn't get hot, reads quickly and connects pretty well. Only wish instead of an android it had usb-c.

Since I use lots of SD card storage and I’m constantly transferring files, this was the exact piece I needed. I chose the USB 3.0 which works flawlessly and has fantastic speed. Came in 2 days. There are a few reasons to choose this handy piece: First off, lots of PC’s and laptops DO NOT have SD card slots which caught me by surprise. But every PC and Laptop has a USB slot. So this come into use. Second, the speed is really fast. Normally on a regular SD card adapter transfers files normally around 15-20MBs per second. This however does it at around 85MBs per second. So ironically, I use this over SD card adapters. (Note: this was on USB 3.0) Thirdly, the size is perfect. It easily fits into any pocket and a decent build. Has two protecting cases on the end of the USB slot and type C which is nice. Just to confirm, I tested all components work perfectly fine and no defects for me. You could use both the SD card and Micro SD card slot at the same time, though I’m almost sure your speeds will slow down. Overall, it’s super worth it and good to have even just lying around. And it’s a great price so you have really not much to lose. Highly recommended for anyone and heavy duty transferring.
