Listed at 55 inches wide and in the questions a 48 inch diameter. Why the difference?

The umbrella is 48 inches wide measured from one side between the "points" to the other side between the "points. It could be larger measured point to point but I didn't do that. It's the best umbrella I've had; reminds me of one of my old freebee golf umbrellas but more friendly.

Is this umbrella wind proof?

Hi Adam,This umbrella is not one of our Titan umbrellas, so it technically cannot be considered "windproof." How good is the protection against strong winds? I am not looking for something that can withstand storms, but atleast it should not turn inside out

Overall the umbrella functions great. It has withstood strong Pacific Northwest winds and has never crumbled or turned inside out. I would highly recommend this umbrella.
