Fox Run Marble Mortar and Pestle, Green, 4"

I was so happy to find this set, I'm going to be mixing my own watercolor paints. It takes a nice rounded bottom pestle to perfectly grind pigments, and blend powdered binders. Very happy with the smaller hand sized pestle.I expect to get a lot of use from this set.

This is a great little mortar and pestle. I use it to grind my saffron threads, and it works perfectly. It also is a cute little addition to have sitting on my counter. It is always close at hand and available for any spices I need to quickly grind while cooking. The weight is perfect and provides a good grip. It is really solid!

First of all, it wasn't broken! I could feel it rolling around in the product box and I just thought, "oh, that's the problem." Looks like somebody doesn't read their own reviews about their product. Or they just like re-shipping for damaged items. Well, I got lucky. As for the product, it is better than I ever expected it to be. I was done with all the pill pulverizers that claimed they could grind something into a fine powder. I'm not dextrous enough to use a standard mortar and pestle so this was like a dream come true. It crushed my pills into powder in minutes, and these are some crunchy pills to crush. It left a few small, miniscule chinks upon close examination. The next day I experimented with it and stumbled upon a method that produced clean, consistent, powder. It was so fine you could rub the debris on a baby's behind like baby powder. Because I bought this, I am going to get maybe 4 hours of my life back per week, not having to resort to my self crush and grind technique. It works great, it's a functional decoration, and it gets the job done quickly and easily. The rough interior and pestle surface leave some debris to clear off, but it takes about a minute to clear them off. That's the thing about real powder, it does that quite often. I just can't praise this product enough. Original : 7/26/2012 Edit: 8/20/2012 The more you learn about this thing, the better you get your rhythm and positioning down, the better it gets. Now that I've gotten this thing broken in I'm pulverizing 4 rock hard pills at a time in less than five minutes. The powder is actually getting finer and finer. The presence of chunks is almost null. The process is so relaxing too. You don't have to put your wrist into it, just find your technique and sit back. Every pill crusher should have one. It's also a great decoration.

Always wanted a mortar/pestle set and found one I really liked with color to match our kitchen. A nice heavy marble set that really works. The price for a one time purchase was reasonable considering the material is made from marble and is sturdy and weighted enough. I don't foresee any breakage happening from its use as its so easy to use in the hand and serves a functional purpose as a pill crusher and for raw dried spices for cooking. I'm very satisifed with this item.

I bought this based off Serious Eat's mortar and pestle review. I've used a couple of mortar and pestles for spice grinding before, all of which didn't actually grind spices too well. One of them had a mortar rim too high so your hand would always bang against it while using the pestle. Others just didn't grind spices so much as pushed them around. I made my usual attempt at grinding some cumin and coriander. In other mortar and pestles, the spices would break, but that's it--they wouldn't grind to a powder or anything. On this one, I actually got a nice powder. It took a decent amount of time but a lot less than I'd spent on my other ones, and it wasn't too uncomfortable to use. The rough interior really seemed to help. I haven't tried grinding other things, like pesto. It's not perfect, though. The base is slightly uneven and it liked to slide around my countertop. A damp towel or something on the bottom solves this problem but it's something to be aware of, and it is rather heavy. The interior is a light marble and it was stained yellow from the turmeric I added, which didn't wash away easily. I don't mind that, personally, but it's another thing to take note of.

My grandfather taught me to use graphite in locks. It is a dry lubricant. This means that it will not collect dust like Greece's and oils will. This being the case it will keep debris from sticking to depends and tumblers. Well I find it hard to locate graphite when I need it. I have an overabundance of pencils so I figured I'd ride my own. Hence the need for the mortar and pestle. This thing does wonderfully. It come in just as it was described height color weight and everything. Is not very hard to use although you can wear a blister in the palm of your hand if you're not careful. But know this if you do wear a blister in the palm of your hand and you tend to do this over and over and over anyway you will get a callus there. If you have someone that can't take pills whole or even cut this is a nice alternative means to crushing them. But you would have to clean it out between each individual brand otherwise you could risk giving somebody a dose or something that they weren't prescribed.

This is by far the cutest and tiniest mortar grinder I have ever purchased. I did want something small. It did not disappoint. I mean. It was only about $20 with taxes so I was not expecting something huge. The quality is good. It’s worth more than what I paid. I’m pleased. Works well to grind my dog raw beef bones and marrow after baking and drying. The grinder turns the bones into a fine calcium dust to be added to his homemade fresh cooked food. I have no regrets with this tiny purchase. I actually love it. Takes very little room in my dog cupboard.
