Lonely Planet Iceland (Travel Guide) Review: A great book to get ideas from - This is a great reference guide for Iceland. The wife and I just used it on a trip there and likely will again at some point in the future. I can personally say I would recommend going to some of the lesser visited spots in Iceland such as Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Much less tourist traffic and so many amazing things to see still. This book has pretty much everything you need for sites, lodging and food. Only thing you can't get is a variety of personal experiences and recommendations but that's what the Internet is for! Review: Review for Iceland Lonely Planet guide - Great place to travel to, this was a very helpful guide.

a pretty good guide
Although I spent most of my 14 days in Iceland on a group tour and didn’t need to use this book to navigate, I did end up reading through perhaps half of the guide after I had seen many sections of this special country. I found the book very interesting. Even more, I got a lot out of the book, reading about places in Iceland I hadn’t had the opportunity to experience, like the 5-day Laugavegurinn Hike and other remote regions. As is standard for Lonely Planet tour guides, the introductory sections were great, giving a historical and cultural background. Additionally, it was mentioned that the entire book had been updated with particular attention paid to closings and other changes caused by the COVID pandemic….though the Volcano House was closed in Reykjavik. One minor criticism is that the Reykjavik section didn’t have a walking tour of the town, like many other guides have of big towns. I ended up doing the Rick Steves city walking tour (I had both guides) and that tour was great. Iceland is a special place, yet having a good and safe experience requires planning.

Helpful
I have a large stack of lonely planets from every country I've traveled to. I find them extremely useful and they definitely get you in some off the beaten track locations. I never travel without these books!

Lot’s of information
The book is very thorough. I found it difficult to use because of the small print. I also downloaded the Kindle version, which is easier to read and has many hyperlinks.

Truly useful book, it provides information which couldn't get in any of icelandic travel guides published in Japanese.

Filled this with post-its and used it extensively on our 12-day drive around Iceland. Great for planning itineraries ahead of time as well as for more off the cuff adventures to see what was near us at any given time. Would definitely recommend.
