Simple, Effective, Customizable...Deal
Truth be told I was concerned about getting this HOB filter for my 2.5 gallon shrimp tank due to some critical points other reviewers made. So you know where I'm coming from, I do have a larger 30 Gal general tank and I've typically had bad experiences with HOB tanks that have the pump outside the of the tank. I tend to do better with either "self-priming" HOBs or Internal filters. However, for a 2.5 Gallon tank, internals take up too much space for the aquascaping I wanted to do and the only "self-prime" HOB I could think of that would fit was no longer produced (Marina S5). So I had no choice but to go with this HOB that had the motor on the outside. And it's actually really good. So my thoughts as to why I really like this one: 1. This filter is small and slim, but has ENOUGH space for me to customize the filter media (see pictures). 2. Super quiet...in fact my air pump is louder than it. The main feature that helps is that there is a rotating piece you can turn to put some space between the tank and the motor. That's the key there. I had rattles when it was up against the aquarium, but now that I turned that disk and created space, you don't hear anything but the trickle of water (when I turn off my air pump). 3. It comes with a suitably sized pre-filter that covers the intake pipe. My shrimp have safely climbed on to eat some of the food on it and combed off. It is coarse, but for a pre-filter I prefer that as it sufficiently catches large debris without greatly diminishing the water suction. I mean, I want most of the filtering to be done in the chamber anyways. 4. Easy to take apart and clean out sludge 5. The suction isn't too strong for my tank community. No one is fighting the current like they initially were when I tried an internal filter system. 6. It's size is easy to manage and work with while still being big enough to do a proper job. Things I learned to be aware of: 1. One other reviewer mentioned that this pump had sucked out water out of the tank and spilled it outside the tank. THIS CAN BE TRUE. It actually happened to me also, BUT I learned that there is an easy fix and it hasn't repeated that problem ever since. Simply put, I initially over stocked the chamber with media so it ended up displacing the water to much that it spilled out of the filter. I stripped it down (see the picture) and it works like a charm. No spillage...not even a little water dripping out of the top. And the biggest culprit was that I had a sponge that was way too dense in there. 2. When using an HOB this small (especially for a planted aquarium that uses soil), it will be necessary to clean the filter once a week. This also helps to prevent overflow. It's the nature of the beast. 3. The noise issue can be real as another reviewer noted...but just as I stated, the rotator disk they have at the bottom of the motor makes the rattles disappear. Again, the key is putting a gap between the tank and the motor component of the HOB. So all in all, I am pleased with this purchase and will be going for this filter again if I ever require one for another nano tank.

Pretty Darn Good Filter for the price
This little filter is pretty effective really. I slipped a correct sized piece of some filter sponge media I cut to size inside it instead of the thing that came with it. It worked fine on my 5 gallon tank. It works just fine. I've had DaToo products before and they've been just fine for me and a less expensive brand. It's just a simple filter and I've used it about 3 months so far and it's still working fine. Not too loud...it's very small so probably wouldn't go higher than a 5 gallon tank with it

This filter is ok
Pictures are of a 1.75 gal cylinder glass vase. Although this filter does work the motor is rather loud. There aren't many options for small filters like this so I purchased two of these to give a try and they are ok. Would I recommend these to others? Mmmm, sure I suppose. I feel like the price point is low enough and may reflect the lower quality. I do like that the flow is adjustable and works as it should, the actual filter just kind of sits in the housing it is not form fitting. Overall I suppose this will work for my application but may be annoying to have in a place where you expect to have peace and tranquility like a bedroom or an office, unless you don't mind a humming sound from the motor. As for longevity that I am not sure, the humming could be from an unbalanced impeller or high resistance not sure.

Mighty for the size!
Pretty mighty for how small it is. Moves a good amount of water for the size in my 7 gallon shallow. It is extremely small. So far it’s been fine to me it does get loud sometimes making a vibrating noise on the tank. No space for your own filter media just what is provided.

Disappointing Performance
I was really hoping this filter would work well for my small tank, but it’s been a huge letdown. The water flow is extremely weak, and it doesn’t seem to filter the water effectively at all. I noticed debris and cloudiness building up quickly despite running it continuously. It’s also noisy for its size, and the suction to hang on the tank is flimsy, so it doesn’t stay in place well. Overall, it feels cheaply made and not reliable—definitely not worth the purchase.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect Filter for a Nano Tank – Whisper Quiet!
I was specifically looking for a very small filter that could fit on the back of my 1-gallon nano tank, and this filter checked all the boxes. It's incredibly compact, making it ideal for tight spaces without being an eyesore. What impressed me most is how quiet the motor is—it's practically silent. I actually had to put my ear right up to it just to make sure it was even running! That’s how discreet it is, which is a huge plus for a bedroom or office setup where noise can be a distraction. Another thoughtful feature is the extra piece included for the downpipe. My tank is fairly shallow, so being able to shorten the downstream length made installation smooth and hassle-free. Overall, I’m very impressed and happy with this purchase. It’s efficient, quiet, and clearly designed with small tanks in mind. Highly recommend for anyone running a nano setup!

Loved initially but quickly declined
I purchased one unit for my 3 gal nano tank with guppies and live plants. Very simple set up and installation, quiet and seemingly effective with great flow, even came with a rubber piece to secure to the tank rim to add extra noise barrier. I did consider buying a more dense sponge to help keep floating plants from getting sucked into this sponge as I noticed this being an issue in all of my tanks using this filter but overall, quite and attractive for my rimless nano tank and easy to clean. Or at least first impression… After a month I decided to buy 3 more units for my other nano tanks since I was overall happy with the purchase. All 3 units arrived and all same contents in the box MINUS the rubber tubing for the tank rim to create the noise barrier. This was frustrating but given that all 3 were missing it, I assume this piece was discontinued as part of the setup? Quickly installed all 3 units to my 3 and 5 gallon tanks which I have scatted throughout my house. All is going well but on these units, about 3-6 weeks in, they are no longer whisper quiet. They make very LOUD humming noises and semi rattle against the tank. I cleaned them thoroughly to ensure there’s no build up of any kind causing poor circulation/flow but even putting it right back on, it’s just about the same. I have one in my office on my desk and the noise is so loud it’s distracting during calls and I find myself constantly fidgeting with it, trying different placements and lodging things between the filter and tank to add a barrier but it’s short lived fixes. The one in my bedroom is probably the worst as it now keeps me from sleeping as the noise will often gradually increase over the course of the night. The first tank set up doesn’t seem to have this issue, at least not to this extent, makes some slight noise but It’s nothing compared to the rest of what I am experiencing. It seems the missing rubber tubes really make a huge impact and are necessary for a pleasant experience with these filters. Not sure why that piece has been discontinued but it should definitely be a necessary component included for best possible experience and user sanity. Purchase with caution as I am now in the market for new truly quiet nano filters.

Quiet!
Whisper quiet, shipping was excellent, play with the adjustment knob so it doesn't flow over the filter cartridge. Great little filter!

Good value good quality
I use this filter for my small shrimp tank and it works fine. The build quality is good and the noise level is acceptable. I cleaned the filter with tap water so I don’t need to replace the filter very often. If you are looking for a low budget filter, you should consider this one.

MUST BUY for nano tanks <5 gallons
This is a tiny filter as u can see fits in my palms, great for nano tanks, u can adjust the water flow too. I have it for my beta tank (about 1.2 gallons) but I will put him in a 3 gallon tank along with this filter. it is quite noisy, but I put a piece of paper towel between the filter and the glass and noise is 99% gone. Great quality so far for a tiny filter!
