The best mold material for valuable artifacts and improvisational art making
I did a lot of research and testing before I arrived at ComposiMold as the best material to mold objects that have sensitive surfaces. (old vintage toys) The material is so easy to use over and over again. I hate making multiple part plaster molds! It is so time consuming and messy and if it doesn't turn out right, a waste of time. And the heat of the plaster is not acceptable with certain objects. As a sculptor, I appreciate the ability to take multiple molds with this putty, casting and then reusing it again on another part of the object in a short period of time. Using ComposiMold means I can build my sculptures with the same impromptus and improvisation of working in paints or drawing.

Works great for polyester resin molding, no mold release needed
I'm brand new to resin molding. I bought this mold putty hoping it would be good for one-off molds for polyester resin, though I couldn't find anything online about using clay or polymer for molding resin. Answer: it works great. I heated the putty as per the instructions, and made a mold for a Zia symbol, which I filled with red ink tinted resin. I didn't use any oil or mold release because I wasn't sure if I could clean it off the putty afterward; I was worried that the thin arms would stick and wouldn't separate from the mold putty, but the putty stays a bit flexible at room temperature, so I was able to pull it gently away from the hardened resin and it came off clean. I let the Zia cure for a few more days, then I reheated the putty and re-molded it into an oval, pressed the Zia into it, then poured some more resin with amber coloring around it. It all worked just as I had hoped, and the only problem is my own amateurish artistic talents. :-) I'm looking forward to making lots more molds. Be aware that 1.5oz is not a lot of putty. It was just enough to mold this 4" x 3" x 1/4" emblem.

Too good to be true? Yes.
I wanted to like it. I really did but it just doesn't live up to it's claims. At least with polymer clay or resin. The first couple of times I tried to mold, it did ok. Around the 4th time I tried to make a mold it got extremely oily which ruined my resin. Well... ok, it'll be strictly used for polymer clay now. But the next time I tried to use it, it just crumbled. I tried and tried heating it and balling it trying to get it to stick together again but it wouldn't. Maybe it's just the small size that's poor quality since it doesn't come with special oil drops or special storage bag? I'm just really really disappointed in it at how little use I got out of it before it permanently disintegrated into rubbery crumbs and the money wasted. Regrettably, I will not recommend this product.

Cool concept, not a great outcome
I Love the concept of this product! The box came with 6oz. Of putty, clear and thorough instructions, a small bottle of activator and a pamphlet on the other products they have(related to mold making). I followed the directions and put 5 drops of activator into the microwavable bag with putty inside, microwaved it for 15sec., Checked it, 15 more and it was very pliable so I let it sit for 10 min. Til it was cool enough to knead, kneaded it and placed and object in the putty to make a mold. After 4 hours it hadn't solidified enough to take the object out and over night it had solidified but I could easily rub the details out of the mold I had made. I don't know why it won't set up completely but I did try pouring some resin which held the details okay, not perfect though. It never sets up well enough to a point where I can't rub out the details. I don't know how it would hold up to wax or hot liquid being poured into it but my guess is not great :(. I could be doing something wrong but haven't figured it out yet.

Super Putty!
If you like to make castings of small objects for crafting or cosplay, this reusable mold putty is for you. Extremely simple to use, and reusable for hundreds of molds. A bit pricey, but pays for itself rather quickly. I use mine for UV resin pieces, but can be used with wax, clay, and even some low melt metals. Never leaves a residue and creates incredibly detailed prints.

You need more than 1.5 Oz unless you're molding very small pieces
First of all, 1.5 Oz is very little. I'm ordering at least 4 to 5 Oz. Second. Use a microwave safe ceramic or glass plate. It sticks too much to a coated paper plate. Third, they aren't sent " used ". The company intentionally puts an impression in the putty as basically a demonstration. As far as how many times I can use it, time will tell. It works well for now.

Very easy to use
An incredible money saver when it comes to mold making. Very easy to use, comes with a sturdy microwave safe bag. I wish they would have been more clear that you also need to buy the activator with this product for repeated use, or even better if they would have had a sample of it. I would most definitely recommend this for anyone who wants to make easy molds for things like jewelry making, crafts, doll making, etc. Once the putty is cooled and set casting the mold can be a great activity to do with kids. It does get very hot very quickly though, so I wouldn't let kids participate in the actual mold making process until it's had a while to cool down.
