Electric Tennis
Wimbledon has been on and I saw of a fly in my first round encounter; it was no match for my back hand slice and fell easily. After a couple of tricky opponents in the first week, when it looked like Game Set and Match for Bluebottle, I forehand volleyed a wasp to progress to the final. Stripey's mate was waiting for me there but my one-two-combo saw me triumph and conquer the black-and-yellow invaders.

Excellent weapon against flys and wasps
These are by far and away the best tennis-racquet fly swatters I’ve ever used. They are simply the most powerful and are quite fun to use. Why not 5 stars? Well the last one I had didn’t last as long as I expected for such an expensive fly swat. Would I recommend? Yes - I just hope that this one lasts longer!

Amazing
My original one died after many years service, this new model is a lot better. The build quality and the master switch are good. Could not be without one of these in the warmer months

Horsefly’s!
Fed up this summer of being got by horseflies. This bat gets rid of the blood suckers with a satisfying crackle. Only use it on annoying beasts, great for BBQs!!

Fairly useless and flawed design - stick with a traditional fly swat
Fairly useless - stick with a traditional fly swat I had high hopes for this but very disappointed. 1. Very limited scope for use - Because it is hard you can't swat it onto a surface like a window so you have to either try to catch the fly in mid air or hover above it before it moves. Flies and wasps etc move fast so it is much easier to kill them when they are resting which is almost impossible with this. Hard to get them mid air. 2. Need to press safety switch restricts your own hand/wrist flexibility and range of motion. It has a safety switch that you need to press down to activate it. This means you have to grip it quite firmly which in turn makes it harder to quickly flex your wrist to get the fly. 3. Not very effective on big flies: A large bluebottle will take a couple of zaps I found. It is fairly weak powered. 4. Only has cross bars it isn't meshed so smaller animals will just fly between the bars if you try to lower the zapper on to them. All in all very disappointed and a total waste of money. I would stick to the old style fly swat and buy a mains connected UV electric bug killer which is much more effective. The only plus point is that if you do manage to make contact with the fly it makes a satisfying zap sound. Less satisfying is seeing the big ones survive and having to go back for a second go.

Purchased two, one has worked satisfactorily, the other worked for less than a week, thereafter continually sparking without anything around. I cleaned the wires to no avail, and contacted the company on their website link on Amazon requesting a replacement. No response in more than three weeks.. So, their customer support stinks. Amazon not anymore help. Given my experience, I'd say future purchasers have a 50/50 chance of getting a unit that works, NYT Wirecutter recommendation or not. Buyer beware.

My wife loves taking it to the flies when the date enter her domain- sometimes she strikes them and no zap, so the contact is a bit iffy on occasion.

I am surprised to see reviews saying these don't have enough power. Mine makes a loud pop and a bright flash when it hits an insect. It scared me the first few times because it's like a small firecracker. It's way more powerful than the one I saw someone else use which made a tiny spark like the ones you get when you walk on carpet and shock yourself. Everything it has touched has died immediately or curled up into a ball. It's so convenient for killing large insects and spiders inside the house. We get these huge half dollar size spiders that move wicked quick. They are impossible to get with a paper towel and who wants to accidentally touch something that large? I had been using a Dyson but it's hard to catch them and the suction is not quite enough. With these racquets, the spider has no where to go. I usually just put them over the insect and pop!

I have had some similar to this in the past, but this one is definitely more powerful! Rarely do the pests survive being zapped with this one! Really hard to get them on the wall, window or floor, as there is the half inch gap they will continue crawling around in, but if they do happen to go up and touch it, they will be zapped!

We had a yellow jacket nest in a support column on our porch. They were accessing it through a small gap in the boards. We used a rubber band to hold the ON button down and positioned the racket in front of the hole. We emptied the racket three times (shop vac from a safe distance). Ended up buying another racket because cleaning dead wasp off the grille is hard. This thing is amazing on larger bugs.
