Honey Keeper Beehive 10 Deep Frame Kit with Foundations for Replacement Langstroth Beekeeping

I usually order my beekeeping supplies from Mann Lake. That being said, I completed my most recent order with them forgetting to add on 10 deep frames and foundation. I didn’t want to have to pay for shipping with them (you have to spend over $100 for free shipping and I had just spent way over that), so I turned to Amazon to see what they have to offer. This seemed to be the best fit. I always buy unassembled, so this was no issue for me. It was the same cost as what I’d spend at Mann Lake, it had free shipping, came with nails, and arrived in just a couple days, beating my Mann Lake order. Sure, the foundation is unwaxed, but I always buy unwaxed anyway because I prefer to paint on a coat with my own beeswax. I also like the black foundation because I find it easier to spot eggs. The nails may be a little too wide, but for the most part I was able to assemble quickly without issues. I will continue to buy from Mann Lake in the future, but it’s good to know there’s comparable options out there should I once again find myself in a pinch.

These were not difficult to assembly, but the paper directions sent were not the directions for the product. It said there were holes drilled in the side frame pieces. There weren’t. I did not use the nails sent because the first one I hammered into the wood split it in half. I chose to use good wood glue instead. Otherwise, these frames seem sturdy and are a good value. Directions just need to be updated and different, less stout nails need to be included

These were easy to assemble and the pine used for the frames is clear grade. No splitting occurred during nailing because I predrilled the holes. They fit perfectly in my 8 frame supers ,that I built, with two frames left over. The foundations are NOT wax coated. You will have to wax them or wait a few weeks longer for your bees to build it out. Both options are ok with me as I bought these particularly because they are black. I have been reading that bees actually prefer the black color as opposed to white foundation sheets. Time will tell.

This is an unassembled10 deep frame kit # FR1. The quality of material was good, with noted exceptions; Two frame side pieces were badly warped, I'm not sure I can salvage them. The foundation material was not wax coated. The wooded parts were not drilled to accept the 1/8 inch diameter nails so the wooden pieces will be damaged on assembly. The nails are smooth sided so they will loosen over time. The foundation material was not wax coated. The assembly instructions are somewhat Spartan and make no suggestion to the newbie assembler like applying a lite amount of a quality wood glue to each joint of the frame. I secure all my frames with 1 inch hoop staples. As an alternate method you could use brads of the appropriate lengths pining the joints together in a crossing pattern to prevent movement, both methods have worked very well for me over the years. Would I buy this kit again? Maybe, if I do and there is a repeat of the warped wooden pieces I will return it for a refund.
