Works GREAT!! The Perfect Tool for De-Rusting Cast Iron.
AFTER spending 45 minutes cleaning up my rusty Tuscan grill with a wire wheel on an angle grinder I was reviewing how to re-season cast iron on the lodge website and I saw this. Sounded useful, so I bought one: it's an incredible tool! I could have cleaned the grill faster with this!! (And a whole lot safer and quieter!). I also touched up the lid of one of my Lodge Dutch oven. Quick and easy, like erasing pencil with a rubber eraser, or using a pumice stone on a swimming pool. Yes, it is consumed slowly, but not that quickly; it appears to be a hard rubber bar containing an abrasive. After removing surface rust, the iron appears all fresh and new, ready for re-seasoning as indicated. My hobby is metalworking, and I have spent many hours de-rusting iron and steel over the years, using everything from phosphoric acid to power tools, and for a small job (like a pot or grill) this is just the ticket! So easy to use, just rub it on the metal! This is absolutely a five-star product!

A Must-Have for Cast Iron Maintenance!
This rust-removing block is a game-changer for cast iron. It effectively tackles surface rust without harming your pan's seasoning, provided you use it carefully. I've used it on everything from minor blemishes to more stubborn rust spots, and it consistently clears them up quickly with minimal pressure. Think of it as a precise, satisfying "eraser" for your skillet. What truly sets this block apart is its simplicity and mess-free application. A few scrubs, a quick rinse, and a little re-seasoning, and your pans will look almost new. Plus, it's incredibly durable; I've used it on several pans and Dutch ovens, and it's still going strong. If you own cast iron cookware, especially Lodge, this inexpensive tool is a smart investment. It saves time, protects your cookware, and is far easier to use than abrasive steel wool or wire brushes. I highly recommend it!

Used once - seems to work, but still early on longevity or tough issues!!
Only used it once and seems to do the job.

Worked better than I thought it would
Worked better than I thought it would. Faster than the methods I was using before. Will still need some clean up but could cook in them if I wanted to now. I cleaned 2 of my cast irons, and it cleaned up the rust pretty nicely. I still have quit a bit of the bar left so plan on using it on some of my other pots.

Restores Cast Iron Like Magic—A Must-Have for Any Cookware Lover!
I was skeptical at first, but the Lodge Cast Iron Rust Eraser completely won me over. I used it to revive a vintage skillet that had been sitting in my garage for years, and it worked like a charm. The eraser is easy to grip and gives you precise control, making it perfect for targeting rust spots without damaging the rest of the pan. It strips rust down to the bare iron, so yes—you’ll need to re-season afterward—but the results are totally worth it. My skillet looks brand new and cooks beautifully again. I’ve even used it on grill grates and old tools with great success. For such a compact tool, it packs serious power and is incredibly durable. Plus, it’s made in the USA, which is always a bonus. If you’re into cast iron cooking or restoring heirloom pieces, this eraser is an absolute essential. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to keep their cast iron in top shape without harsh chemicals or endless scrubbing!

AMAZING!!!
This is an amazing tool. I had several, severely rusted, cast iron pans and was planning to throw them out. I thought this eraser would be an inexpensive last option to saving the pans. It worked. I followed the directions to use on a dry pan, wash in warm, soapy water, dry and then re-season. I highly recommend this tool for removing rust.

Witchcraft
I don't know why this works. I don't. It feels like rubber and I'm seeing little specs of metal mixed within it, but...IT WORKS. BUY THIS NOW. I had a 14 inch cast iron pan that my mother accidentally ruined years ago (read: like 5ish years) and I was about to throw it away during a new year clean out, but then I decided to "fix it" as a hobby. I tried the potato and salt method, soaking in vinegar, scrubbing with a steel wool and dish detergent and salt and....just, so many different methods and practices. So many. They would helped a little, but there was still rust, over and over and over. So I thought, as a last ditch effort, to pick this up. It was inexpensive and by a reputable brand that is incredibly well known. If I were to purchase another cast iron pan, I could use it for that if I needed to. I started scrubbing the edges and interior of my pan and...it was working. It was removing the rust that I had consistently been unable to remove by the tons of other methods. I didn't require a cleaner (at least not initially), or salt, or vinegar. Just the power of this bar and a small bit of elbow grease. After I shook out the rust dust, I washed it with a little bit of Dawn and a sponge with a nylon scrubber on one of the sides. I then seasoned it (450F for 60 minutes, then just turn the oven off and let the pan cool down in there). It is perfect. There's still some discoloration, BUT the rust is GONE. VANISHED. ELIMINATED. This is pure Witchcraft, no other excuse. lol

This powerful solution is a game-changer for anyone looking to restore the shine and functionality of their beloved cast iron pans and pots. I recently discovered Lodge Rust Remover, and it’s been a lifesaver for reviving my old and neglected cookware. With just a few simple steps, this solution effortlessly removes rust, baked-on food residue, and other tough stains, leaving my cast iron looking as good as new. What I love most about Lodge Rust Remover is its effectiveness and ease of use. Simply apply the solution to the affected areas, let it work its magic for a short period, and then scrub away the rust and grime with ease. The results are truly impressive – my cookware looks restored to its former glory with minimal effort required. Not only does Lodge Rust Remover excel in performance, but it’s also safe and environmentally friendly. Made from biodegradable ingredients, it’s a responsible choice for those conscious of their environmental impact.

I bought that item with (kind of) no expectation. It work very well for what I needed it for. Even try with an old iron cookie sheet and it took the small rusty spot with ease.

Although I'm usually very careful to keep my Lodge cast iron properly seasoned I did find that when I stored some pans in a closed cupboard with very little air circulation a few rust spots appeared on one or two of my pans. This eraser is great for removing these and with a quick rub down of grapeseed oil and a hour in the oven at 240c (465F) the rust disappeared. Have since moved my pans to a heavy duty steel racking system that stands in the open in my kitchen. The eraser won't get used that often but it will be my first port of call if required.
