Dance Anatomy [Greene Haas, Jacqui] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Dance Anatomy Review: Every dancer should own this book - I bought this book upon peeking into Yoga Anatomy at the Nature and Science Museum. Looking to save money and buying it used, to save a tree ;) this book popped up on my reccommendations and as a dancer I thought: "hmmm... that looks useful". So I ordered it and when I received it I couldn't put it down. The reason why this book is such a plus is due to the incredibly helpful illustrations that go with the great specified workout suggestions and inform you exactly about what muscle is being targeted. Also the "Dance Focus" next to every workout, showing and explaining in what area of dance or during what kind of move you would use that muscle. The book is split into the sections of the body and each chapter begins with a wonderful Info on that area of the body, including Illustrations of sceletal structure and then the muscle layers atop that. After I had the book for a few days I decided it wouldn't be a bad idea to actually know those bones and muscles by heart, so I stuck little pieces of blank paper over the words and started studying indead of just reading it all and it helped me immensely in the actual workouts. My Arm, Adducter, Hamstring, Knee and Releve Strength has improved considerably since I've been working with this book. A must have, if you want to improve specific aspects of your dancing!!! Review: Improvement & recovery -superb! - This book has been enormously helpful to me as an older, amateur dancer especially now during recovery from rotator cuff surgery. I have a medical education & over 30 years of clinical practice experience. I found the diagrams & text with focus on integrated function for dance to be very unique & helpful in improving turnout, arabesque & port de bras. I recently underwent rotator cuff surgery & struggling with some advanced integrated movements to restore my ballet arm positions. My therapy team is unfamiliar with my problem and we are using this book to guide restorative exercises. My therapy team loves the text & diagrams so much, I purchased a book for them. I found the diagrams & text to be superior to my medical textbooks! I highly recommend this book to dancers & therapists for improvement & injury recovery! It is sooo well done! I keep it in my dance bag!

Great purchase
Dancer on the side, can't always make it to class and travel a lot. This book is filled with tons of additional exercises one could do on top of/in between classes for the active dancer or while slowly working back into things for the former dancer. A lot of the dance moves suggest having some sort of bar, but one can easily substitute some other form of support (desk, table, etc). Broken up by body area, so if you have a trouble area you can focus on that or if you're looking for a whole body work out you can choose different exercises for all the different parts of the body. Very detailed, easy to read and follow along with, love the diagrams on the side of each exercise that show what moves/positions each exercise can help with.

Good book for dance anatomy
This book is great when trying to study muscles used in dance. There are pictures that help to show more detail and does a good job teaching more about the anatomy.

Great anatomy overview for dance students
I've been taking an adult ballet class for about a year and a half with minimal no previous ballet experience and this book has been incredibly helpful in clearly presenting the muscle groups of the body and how the body works while dancing. While none of the strengthening exercises or stretches are new to me (I've been an athlete a long time and practice yoga and Pilates regularly) it was nice to see how the exercises and stretches work each muscle group and what ballet movements those muscle groups are used for. I have recommended this book to my fellow adult ballet classmates and they seem to be enjoying it as well.

A must for every dancer
Great book...I'm taking ballet classes again after a long break and this is a wonderful tool. I am a very visual learner so being able to actually see which muscles I am working when, and what motions utilize which muscles, joints, tendons has been incredibly helpful for me. Nice colored pictures and diagrams. And it explains everything as it is directly related to dance, using dance terminology, suggesting specific exercises to benefit specific moves. Wonderful book, so glad I got it. I will absolutely get far more than my money's worth out of it!

my favorite
This book is my favorite quick reference book. From taking a kinesiology class, most of the information I already knew and from taking dance for several years, many of the stretches I knew as well. However, I love using this book as a quick reference book for referring back to the muscles that control various movements. It helps me remember the names of muscles that are not regularly referred to in a dance class. For me, the book did not have any new and different information. However, for someone who has never taken a kinesiology class and would like to further a dance career or just learn specific stretches to improve technique this is the perfect book for. I Highly recommend this book for every dancer, it is set up in an organized way that is easy to ready and very informative.

Tremendous Tool for Self-Development or Recovery
Absolutely wonderful! I was injured and needed extensive PT -- found that this book more than filled the gaps in PT. If fact, have made more progress using this book, so stopped PT. Provides great illustrations and exercises. Descriptions and illustrations help individuals that are self-motivated to more accurately select and utilize exercises by visualizing and focusing on anatomy needed for specific moves.

This is an excellent book. I am an adult, university educated, novice dance student with no prior knowledge of anatomy but this book gives lovely clear illustrations and explanations and with a bit of application I have learned so much about the workings of my own body. Doing the excercises has made a huge difference to the quality of my movement, but care has to be taken to do them accurately and as per the guidance in the text, to get the full benefit. For this reason, I suspect most students will want to use this book in conjunction with the guidance of an anatomy versed professional teacher.
