I fell in love with the P205 the first time I borrowed one from my dad nearly 40 years ago. I loved it. He let me keep it, and just bought another for himself. I teach a workshop where a mechanical pencil is provided in the supplies kit for each student. I used to buy very inexpensive packs at the office supply store. A few of my students have tried to swipe my dad's P205. I skipped bothering the cheapies this year. Now the students will each have one of these. I just added the cost into the workshop fee. When multiple people want to swipe your pencil, you know it's the right one. Who knows, maybe they'll have their P205 40 years from now too.

This is, and I can not stress this enough, the most comfortable pencil I have ever used. I used these when I was younger, and I'm so happy to have bought more as an adult. I gave a couple to my roommate and he also agrees that they are the best pencils. I'm oddly particular about my writing materials, and I'm so very satisfied with these.

I cannot remember my first Pentel P205 .5mm pencil; it must be 25 or 35 years ago. Thankfully, the original design got it right the first time, and there has been only one change (see below) during all those years. They are fine, reliable writing devices suitable for every application this old architect has seen. With the most minimal care, they will last until you lean over and drop it out of your shirt pocket into the bay. My only complaint; and my reason for not giving the pencil a 5-star rating, is that they no longer come equipped with a "cleaning pin" stuck in the bottom of the eraser. The pencil's primary malfunction occurs when a small piece of lead becomes soiled and a little "gummy" and refuses to slide through the collar at the tip. My guess is that a lawsuit denied future users of this most useful tool. I wish Pentel (or another company) could sell them separately.

I ordered a pack of ten and only got one pencil!!! A $90 pencil!!
