If you buy it directly from Amazon, it's the legit Nanoblock that's made in Japan. Don't order from third-party sellers since they might try to scam you by sending the Chinese knockoff version from Loz or iBlock.

It says the recommended age is for preteens to teenagers but reviews state they got for younger kids. Would this be ok for a 6 y/o boy??

Definitely not for kids since the pieces are ridiculously tiny and might get lost. The instructions can be a bit confusing too if you don't know how to read each diagram. The description says 8+, but I wouldn't recommend these for anyone under 13.
