EASY to use with GREAT results
This is AWESOME. So easy to cook a few eggs, so fast, so easy to clean up. I used to eat cold, hard boiled eggs for breakfast, but now I have just as quick a breakfast (okay, 50 seconds not as quick) that is hot. On cold mornings, it's nice. The hinge works fine -- just open it carefully. The top does lay flat, but you have to help it down. It takes no effort. For the people who complain...I can see how they broke it, but geesh, it's a plastic product with plastic hinges; it isn't a door with metal hinges! Just ease up. It takes getting used to a little bit to monkey with time for your oven. Because you put water in it to poach the egg, you have to "learn" what is water, what is uncooked egg white. They truly come out as poached, which means cooked in water. For the price, it can't be beat! Easy to clean, easy to throw in the washer -- but really, just a wipe out is clean enough (because you cook in water, nothing sticks). Recommended.

Best Egg Poacher
This is the second unit I have ordered, the first one was lost during a move. If you follow the instructions you will have perfect poached eggs every time. This is my method: spray both the inside halves with "PAM" cooking spray, put a pat of butter to each bottom on the poacher, give both the halves a liberal twist of freshly ground pepper and salt, the water (don't forget the water), and finally add the eggs and close the two halves together(See Cons.) Cooking the eggs requires some testing with the microwave wattage (750,800,1000,1200) and the size of the eggs. A couple of small eggs in a 1200 watt microwave for two minutes will yield some hard eggs, Whilst a couple of Jumbo eggs in a 750 watt microwave for two minutes will yield some soupy eggs. Cons: The HINGES are difficult to use: They are hard to put together yet fall apart at any given time. They are difficult to close and I always have a strong rubber band to keep the haves sealed. I have tried two other microwave egg poaching products; The big white egg poacher always gives me hard boiled eggs and it takes much longer at least 8 minutes and then you have to deal with the shell. The other product is something like Eggletts. You get 6 Silicone egg pods with lids. The pods need to be sprayed with Pam. You have to crack each egg into a pod and screw the lid on. Place the pods in boiling water, 8 minutes for soft boiled and 13-15 minutes. This product prep time is longer and it cooks in water I tried the eggletts once and several tops came off, it was was a mess. Bottom line if you like poached eggs that can cook quicker than your toast then the Nortic Ware product is for you.

Microwaves don't really poach an egg the way I like it
This product works very well if you like a poached egg cooked so the yolk is solid. I prefer my poached eggs with a runny yolk, and microwaving the egg results in a hard yolk before the egg whites have cooked. I'm not faulting the designers of this product, it is very easy to use and clean up. I will keep this and throw it in my camping box for the next time I'm on the road, but it's not my favorite way to make a poached egg. I think the best way to use this is to cook an egg in a perfect circle, then lift it out and pat it dry and make a breakfast sandwich with ham/bacon and cheese on an English muffin.

Operator Error
OK, I have had this little doodad for a little over a year. I was looking for a quick, healthful way that I could prepare my eggs: preferably, in such a way that they would fit an English muffin for an "on-the-go" breakfast sandwich. I used it off and on, liking it, but also having a bit of frustration as I experienced the whole "sticking" thing that several other reviewers mentioned. Every time I used it, there was egg white stuck to the inside and I would have to rub and rub with the sponge to get it clean. A scrubby would have been faster, but I did not want to risk scratching the material and making my problem even worse. I did not want to try oil (again the "healthful" thing - also, if I did, then I may as well fry the eggs), I did not want to leave an average or negative review since there were so many peeps who did not have the problem. Hence, I figured it was operator error for me... and I was right. I started using this again, and have used it every day for the past two weeks. Up until four days ago, I had to allow myself an extra few minutes to ensure I had time to get it clean before leaving for work. The best day ever was the day that (when in a rush), I put a little more water on the "egg side" than usual. I did not take the time to dump the extra water and just rushed on through... then I bumped it as I was putting it in the microwave causing even more water from the other side to get added to the egg (I took the advise of other reviewers and when I only cook one egg, I always put water on the empty side). When I opened it back up, there was a perfectly poached egg - no egg-splosions, and nothing stuck to the inside... anywhere! I have repeated the same "mistake" every day since and have had the same perfect results. Happy Girl! Now just a quick swipe with a soapy sponge, a quick rinse and out the door. Had to hurry up and write the review to say how pleased I am!

Not as expected
This is easy to use and the eggs cook just right. I had read in other reviews to put the pan in the oven with the handle towards the middle and the eggs cook evenly. I did and was happy with the outcome. I took 2 stars off my original review. The first time I used it I liked the way the eggs cooked. After that I have been disappointed. One egg is runny and the other is overcooked. Have adjusted the time in the microwave, it just isn’t cooking the eggs the way I want them. It’s probably something I am doing different since the first time I liked the eggs. Doubt if I use it again. Better to cook my eggs in s skillet.

GREAT little egg poacher
First of all, I must say that if I had realized how easy it would be to use this poacher, I would have purchased it years ago. Yes, there is an adjustment period you need to go through to understand how this will work in your particular oven, but once you are past that, you're all set. I love poached eggs and for me it took too long to boil the water, slide the egg in gently, take it out and drain it before eating it. This little gadget does the trick! I have a 1000 watt microwave & here's what I do for 2 eggs: 1. Briefly spray each side w/cooking spray 2. Crack the eggs & put one in each side 3. Take a fork & pierce the yolk AND white several times. (you don't want to scramble it, just make sure it's pierced good) 4. Add 1/2 teaspoon of water to each well (on top of the egg) 5. Close the lid 6. Microwave for 1:20 (1min 20sec) at 70% power (you will hear some popping) 7. Let it sit for at least 30 seconds to complete cooking For 1 egg: 1. Briefly spray one side w/cooking spray 2. Crack the egg into the side you just sprayed 3. Take a fork & pierce the yolk AND white several times. (you don't want to scramble it, just make sure it's pierced good) 4. Add 1/2 teaspoon of water to EACH well 5. Close the lid 6. Microwave for 50 seconds at 70% power (you will hear some popping) 7. Let it sit for at least 30 seconds to complete cooking This gives me eggs that are cooked just right, not too hard and not runny. They slide right out of the wells and they are perfect for an egg sandwich with English muffins. You could also get started on an egg salad with this if you wanted. Overall, this is one of my better buys for the kitchen.

Hopeless
I don't know how the people here who have praised this product managed to cook eggs that were edible. My first try was by following directions at the lowest time (1 minute 15 seconds) and I ended up with perfectly hard cooked eggs. So, I tried again, lowering the cooking time to 1 minute. This time I had one egg hard cooked and the other with runny whites. I then thought maybe a little more water might help so I used a tsp of water in each cup. Same results as the second with one hard cooked and one barely cooked. That's when I threw it in the trash. I was trying to find the perfect method for cooking eggs where I ended up with fully cooked whites and a runny yolk. I have tried soft boiled (too iffy on the timing), over easy (I mostly broke the yokes) and poached (again iffy on the timing and mostly messy). Finally I came up with the perfect way to cook eggs the way I like them. I found a frying pan that perfectly fit two eggs. I melted some butter in the pan and cracked in the two eggs. I let them cook over medium low heat for about a minute to mostly set the whites. I then added a couple of tablespoons of water, put on a glass lid and turned the heat to low. I then "steam fried" the eggs for another 2 minutes or so, watching the yolks through the glass top. When the yolks were slightly filmed over, I tested the whites. Perfectly cooked. I then drained the eggs on a paper towel and flipped them onto a piece of buttered toast. Heaven! Perfectly cooked eggs, firm whites and runny yolks. I just wish I could figure out a better way to drain them so I ended up with the yolks face up on the bread but, what the hey, I'm just happy to have perfectly cooked eggs!

It works for me.
Reading some of the reviews of this poacher is kind of like watching a three stooges movie. You crack an egg, drop it in the cup, poke it with a fork, add 1/2 teaspoon of water, close it and stick it in the microwave. I nuked my two eggs this morning for 55 seconds, took the poacher out, let it sit for 30 seconds, and dumped the eggs on a plate. They were exactly the way I like 'em. Both of them. Whites set, yolk soft. I haven't had my microwave explode yet, and I've been using this thing frequently for about three months. No, the top doesn't close securely, but that evidently doesn't matter; the eggs still cook perfectly. I will try the PAM suggestion, though, and maybe even the cheese thought. My hinges still are fine because I'm careful opening it. When I'm through with breakfast, I just put the poacher in the dishwasher, on the top rack. No problems so far. I bought two originally at about seven bucks each, which I think is a bargain for what it does. Before this I was using a 4-egg electric poacher, which was a nightmare to use and clean. Don't listen to the negative reviews. Follow the instructions, handle it gently, and find the right amount of time for your doneness preference. I can't compare it with all the other microwave egg poachers out there, because I haven't tried them. I just know this works, and I'm happy with it.
