SNL alumni Tina Fey steps into the well worn shoes of journalist Kim Barker in Paramount Pictures' adaptation of Barker's memoir The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan, which details her years as a reporter in Pakistan and Afghanistan beginning in 2002. Review: Good Flick But Very Loosely Based On the Actual Book - I really liked this move so much that I bought Kim Barkers book, "Taliban Shuffle" which was the basis for the movie. The movie is very very loosely based on the book in which a few snippets of it were taken and then a new "alternative screenplay" took it to a new alternative movie. I know many movies are made the same way, so I am not complaining and like I said I really liked the movie. But if you want the true blue factual story of Kim Barkers experiences as a foreign correspondent, then give her book a read. In fact, she spent more time in India and Pakistan than Afghanistan! I also liked the soundtracks in the movie and really liked that instrumental track from the middle to end of the credits at the end of the movie. I actually captured that instrumental music using my WTF DVD via DVDDecrypter (to AC3), then VLC (to WAV) and Audacity (to finally MP3). Review: Great movie! DVD not supported outside of the US - Really good movie, that tells the original story from the book suprisingly well. As others have pointed out, do not expect a comedy. This movie is a mix of different genres, but it is certainly mostly a drama. PS. As an european I cannot recommend to people who arent from America to buy this movie from desertcart. I had the unpleasant surprise of realising that neither my blu-ray player nor playstation would play it because of region restrictions. This dvd says its meant "for region 1 only". If only desertcart had notified me... However, by changing the region setup on my computer I have been able to watch the movie.

Want Extras? Don't buy the DVD. Mfr. only offers extras on combo set. Good Movie, though.
I am writing this review to let you know that the DVD version has NO EXTRAS but the manufacturer has the audacity to put a sticker on the front of the package that says "Also available on Blu-ray combo pack. Which includes Over 45 mins of bonus content, digital HD, DVD." I hadn't gotten to even watch this yet but was insulted by the cheapness and nerve of the manufacturer: Paramount PIctures (couldn't even read the specs - blue on black print). UPDATE: I watched the movie and I liked it. I was surprised at all of the coarse language at first - I guess I got used to it. I think all of the actors did a good job and it shows what "war" journalists might have to go through to keep their jobs and/or even have their stories broadcast. This was based on Kim Barker's book Taliban Shuffle... https://www.amazon.com/Taliban-Shuffle-Strange-Afghanistan-Pakistan/dp/030747738X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480807457&sr=8-1&keywords=taliban+shuffle+by+Kim+Barker

WTF
Was looking at Billy Bob Thornton movies for the hubby, when this one popped up, I had been meaning to pick it up earlier, and was happy to find it for a reasonable price. All the actors are great, and the material is a little gritty, but they did it with humor and grace that would have been present in such tense situations.

Great cast, worth seeing
Everyone in it is great, and the story is fascinating. Most Americans do not understand what we were doing in Afghanistan or why the press is so important. Horrid use of Harry Nilsson's "Without You."

A very VERY good movie.
For me, this is the first DRAMA that I've seen Tina Fey do. And it was very well done, a movie worthy to watch. I don't know how much of the story was embellished, vs. what they claim is the basis for the plot. But, it is an eye opener in many a regard. This is not by any means a comedy. And it deals with serious subject matter in many things. The interaction between the many players is well done, and the development of the story flows very well. A really awesome one for me. A very VERY good movie.

WTF Lionel
Tina Fey is excellent as Kim Barker. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if you don't see her taking on a lot more serious roles. The movie did not do great at the box office and probably upset her as she was the co-producer with Michaels, and I think this really is the first time something went wrong in her career. If you look at her life here is a woman who couldn't get a job in entry level jobs, and is now one of the most successful woman in entertainment. She has done this on her hard work and likable personality. Her life values are very high, and I always say that young women I know could turn out like Tina Fey. The only thing I think is that she would not move to Hollywood, and that could cut her chances of getting a real Oscar winning part in some movie.

One to watch again.
Im usually a Die Hard/Terminator film type, so held off this movie thinking it was going to be just another stupid hollyweird 'comedy'- turned out I was wrong, and this is now without doubt one of my favs. The first movie in a LONG time I actually laughed out loud at, certainly has funny lines, but it also has a bigger story to it. I would definitely watch this again and soon, just...a damn good movie!

Interesante
Es una película interesante; el humor no terminó por gancharme, pero la historia es buena y termina por ser una película palomera.
