Excellent Cookie Press - Makes Beautiful Spritz Cookies, Comes with a Wide Variety of Designs
The OXO Good Grips Cookie Press Set is a great tool to make spritz cookies. The press is well-made, easy to handle, easy to clean, and it presses out very cute cookies. The set includes a wide variety of metal cookie plates, including daisy, fleur-de-lis, sunflower, tree, bear, wreath, heart, shell, snowflake, butterfly, shamrock, and flower blossom. The plates come with a convenient carrying case, and when stamped out, the designs are clean and crisp-looking. The press is much easier for me to use than my older Wilton Cookie Press. On my old cookie press, I had to squeeze a handle, which wasn't so bad to do twenty years ago, but as I'm getting older, I find I prefer the "position and press down" handle type of press. The press comes apart easily for cleaning, and the resulting cookies just look great. Overall, it's a good quality cookie press that I would purchase again.

Easy to use, easy to clean.
For a first time spritz cookie maker, this was easy to use and easy to clean. The trigger is easy to squeeze. The gun easily dissembles into its various parts for cleaning. The dies allow you to make various cute cookie shapes with a squeeze of the gun. A note to new spritz cookie bakers, make sure your pan is ungreased and unlined when you squeeze out dough, or the cookies won't adhere to the pan from the cookie gun.

Great for Cookies - Won't Work for Making Churros
If you want to make pretty cookie shapes in no time, this is the product you're looking for. I've been a longtime fan of OXO products, they're all terrific. So I had high expectations of this cookie press. It definitely delivers, as far as ease of use, and the end result you get when making cookies. That said, I do have one important question.... Why doesn't OXO make a disc for churros? I came across a similar kitchen gadget that was used to make churros. I normally just a frosting piping tip in a plastic bag for shaping my churro dough before frying. The catch is that I can't make them very thick. And I can't automatically make the hollow churros that can be filled with sweet stuff after you fry them up. Instead of just ordering a churro press, I figured I'd try this cookie press out. So no matter what, I've at least got a really good cookie press. I tried experimenting with different discs, but it just wasn't going to work for churros. It does work great in that you can hold the press sideways, and just click out long shapes (then cut with a knife when it reaches the right size). But the dough doesn't come out as a single, solid piece. At least, not in a shape vaguely resembling that of a churro. That you can't make churros with these isn't a bad thing. OXO doesn't advertise the product as something you could make churros with. I just had hoped that I would be able to do it. I can't, so I just buckled and ordered myself a churro press. Overall, I'm happy with this cookie press. Works well, and you won't strain your hand much, like with some cheap cookie presses out there. So if you want a nice cookie press, add this one to your cart, and buy it today.

Works well.
Works very well. Only issue is that if the disk is not installed "sharp side out" the dough will not release properly and it sticks to the cutter. The disks should have a making that indicates which side should face outward. When the disks are made I believe a metal punch/stamp is used to cutout the shape, so one side is slightly bent in with rounded edges, that side needs to be inside the tube, whereas the "sharp" side needs to face outward. Also, it helps to put the pans into the refrigerator for a few minutes before pressing the dough onto them, that also helps the dough stick to the pan. The shape variety of cutters is nice, then unit is easy to use and clean. Only reason this is 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the disk issue and getting them inserted correctly is a pain.

Excellent product
After using this, I can't believe I have been fiddling around with a pampered chef twist cookie press for years. Whatever you call the twist arm on the other press was just about the most annoying thing I owned in the kitchen, as it would dispense a different amount of dough every time. But I put up with it. Finally, this year, with the daunting task of making several hundred spritz cookies for Christmas, I decided to look for something new. This is the answer to all my cookie press woes. The barrel is a little smaller than my old one, meaning you have to refill it more often, but the ease of use far outweighs any downside on the size. The disk storage case is probably a little unnecessary (just use a bag), but is still a nice touch and will insure that none of your disks somehow get bent or warped when thrown into a drawer. The cookie press itself is so easy to use. The actual press mechanism is notched so that with each push of the handle, you get the exact same amount of dough out the bottom (read: uniform cookies). There is a little button on the side that allows you to pull the "pin" all the way to the top and start over each time. I also love that it has a grip on the base where you set the press onto your cookie sheet. This works particularly well when using a silpat, and you can work so much faster without the press sliding around as you press down. The shapes included are also great. You get a Daisy, Flower, Sunflower, Fleur-de-lis, Butterfly, Bear, Shell, Leaf, Heart, Snowflake, Tree, and Wreath. I have only used the last three for Christmas spritz, and I typically only pull out my cookie press at Christmas time. With the other disks included, I may try something new this year by using it at different times of the year. I think you could probably also use this with a more savory dough to make biscuits or crackers and it would be fantastic for a party. Overall, a great quality product that does not feel cheap at all and is super easy to use.

Perfect cookies at warp speed if you follow the directions and do what they say
I bought this press on sale through the warehouse deals. Supposedly just damaged packaging but the package looked fine. When I went to make a batch I noticed I couldn't get the top off, so I loaded it from the bottom and made a bunch of adorable cookies that tasted great. The unit cranked out those cookies in warp speed and they cooked up perfectly. When I was done I figured I would soak the press in warm water and finally get it unscrewed for cleaning as some dough got trapped between the chambers...no luck. I guess that is why it was returned but now I have a press with cookie dough all stuck on it to return...yuk! I chatted with Amazon, told them the situation and they credited me for the cost of the press and I am ordering another...no need to send it back. This is why I shop here..so hassle free. Manufacturing defect aside, this was the most effortless press I have ever used! I found after I primed the unit and scraped off the dough as instructed I still had to do a double press to get the first cookie out, which was now double the size of all the rest. No problem, I just scooped it up and put it back in the bowl for the next batch. Nothing was wasted. The rest of the cookies came out perfect with one press and if I had enough cookie sheets I could have knocked out the entire dough batch in about ten minutes...EVEN with reload time! I used a teaspoon to press out any air pockets...made sure my pan was ungreased and cold (made sure the pan cooled before I loaded on another batch) rotated the pan in the oven halfway through as suggested in the recipe and every cookie came out picture perfect in warp speed. I loved how easy it was to change disks between batches so I was able to check out several of the designs and they all came out adorable. The cookies are petite but I like that...some others complained they were too small...I find the small size adds to their charm. I made the lemon poppy seed variation of the butter cookie included with the unit...I'm a lemon freak so next time I will double the amount of lemon extract, but it still made for a tender, flavorful cookie with a hint of lemon. I purchased the autumn disk set but have not used it yet. Wanted the spring set but they are unavailable at the moment. My only regret is that I will have to wait for the new press to arrive to make more cookies... Update: The new press works great and I since I couldn't find a good lemon cookie recipe for this press I created one that I am thrilled with. If you're looking for a mild lemon flavor...move on, this is NOT the cookie for you. Lemon Poppy Sunflower Cookies 2 Sticks cold butter cut into teaspoon slices 3 ounces softened cream cheese 1 cup sugar 1 egg yolk I teaspoon lemon oil (I got this at King Arthur Flour) if you use extract, double it and add more as desired I heaping teaspoon of european lemon zest (King Arthur again) fresh zest of one lemon would be fine 1 teaspoon lemon powder (King Arthur) have no idea what to sub here maybe double the zest 2 1/2 Cups King Arthur All Purpose Flour (the only flour I use) 1/4 teaspoon of salt (if your using salted butter you can skip this) Poppy seeds Lemon sugar (again King Arthur, but I was disappointed how minimal the taste was...perfect lemon yellow color however so I used it...a nice lemon yellow sanding sugar would work just fine) Makes 8 dozen cookies Preheat oven to 350 degrees Cream butter and cream cheese and sugar (I used my Kitchenaid mixer and it took a lot longer than you would think) Look for the mixture to change color to a light yellow almost white with no lumps of butter showing, it should be light and fluffy...took me about 10 minutes on medium speed) Add egg yolk, lemon oil, lemon zest, lemon powder mix until well combine and then taste to see if it's lemony enough for you and adjust as needed (I added more lemon powder as a first instinct). Combine flour and salt and slowly add to butter mixture while mixing...here's where a lot of people go wrong, don't be afraid to mix this, you won't get a tough cookie but if it's not light enough it won't go through the press. Load the dough with a teaspoon into the press fitted with the sunflower disc, pushing the dough down with the teaspoon to push out any air pockets, if any dough starts coming out of the press just pop it back in the bowl for the next batch. Press cookies out on a COLD UNGREASED COOKIE SHEET. Don't try to use parchment, foil or silpat, it just won't work. I've never had a cookie stick or break. You may have to press twice to get the first cookie out, this will be bigger than the rest, I just scoop it up, put it back in the bowl and press another in it's place. Dust with lemon sugar or yellow sanding sugar and then sprinkle poppy seeds in the center. I use a 1/8th teaspoon for this and tried several different ways, one depressing the center with the measuring spoon and pouring some poppy seeds in...but in the end I just sprinkled some around the center (there is a peak in the very center) I liked the way this looked the best. Baking: my oven is true to temp and at first I baked for 12 minutes, rotating the pan after 6 minutes. The end result was a cookie that was golden just around the edges and somewhat pale. The texture was delicate with a nice crumb. Next I tried at 14 minutes rotating after 7 minutes. Now the end result had the golden color encroaching up the petals a bit and I just loved this look! Much more reminiscent of a real sunflower. The texture was now crispy and I preferred it by far. Now these cookies are amazing just as is, but I'm planning on melting some lemon wafers (King Arthur) and dipping the bottoms in it for a cookie that will hit it out of the park. Also thought about sandwiching two cookies between some of the melted lemon wafers but that may be just too much cookie. I'll update with the results. Hope you enjoy this recipe! UPDATE: dipping the bottoms in the melted lemon wafers was just too much of a hassle so I put a dollop of about 1/8th-1/4 teaspoon of the melted lemon wafers on the flat side of a cookie and sandwiched it with another. The small size of the cookie was perfect for this and I just loved the result. I melted about a half cup of wafers in the microwave for 2-30 second burst on high and it was enough to sandwich about 40 cookies (80 cookies sandwiched). I left the rest as is. This cookie is a winner IMHO. ANOTHER UPDATE: Duh! I lined a sheet with parchment paper, put a dollop of melted lemon wafer on the paper and centered a cookie on it and pressed gently. Worked like a charm. You could also put the dollop directly on the back of the cookie and then place on the sheet...I posted some photos. Here you don't want any brown color so I baked for 12 minutes rotating after 6.

A must buy for cookie bakers
Every year, the kids (ages 8 and 5) and I go into Christmas baking frenzy come December. It's our annual " joyful "undertaking. We normally do PB blossoms and jelly thumbprints (bc those are Santa's favorites), cutouts (bc they're fun to decorate), chocolate chip, and then something new. Since our cookie delivery list is quickly growing, including a couple cookie exchanges, I wanted something quick and easy. I 've always shied away from spritz's because of the horror stories about cookie presses, but the other reviews on this one seemed inviting. So, this was my first cookie press buy and the experience was AMAZING. I had NO problems putting the press together, filling it, using it, changing disks, or cleaning it. There were a free cookie recipe in the booklet, and i used the chocolate cookie recipe first and the snowflake disk, figuring you can't go wrong with chocolate... and it would be ok if every snowflake had a different design. SCORE, WIN! I would have liked the cookie to be a bit sweeter, but this was easily fixed by dipping the backs in white chocolate and crushed up candy canes I then ventured out and found a few fun flavors. * I added raspberry jello to the butter recipe and made bears. Piped chocolate faces on once they were cooled. * chai powder wreaths * green tea trees. Another reviewer had some great hints that were super helpful. I'll add a few comments. -do NOT use parchment paper... The cookies won't "stick" to them - DO use cool (mine were room temp) non stick cookie sheets - pack the cylinder well. Each recipe made two cylinders full of dough. - one gentle press of the dough gives you a perfect cookie in the shape of your design. Two gentle presses gives you a medallion with the design shape on top ( great for cookie sandwiches) - top rack dishwasher or hand wash. Clean up was relatively easy as most of the dough dissolved out when i just rinsed the parts.

Not perfect but fun
I was a bit concerned about how well this would work since I've never used a press before to make cookies and I was getting this as a gift for someone. Ordered from the Amazon open box store which was much less expensive. I will say that it was clearly used and smelled of previous unwashed dough (I could see the grease on the plastic parts). After thoroughly washing and drying the entire product (I would have done that anyway), I started making the gingerbread cookie recipe from the little book that comes with the press. I liked the recipe although I would half the amount in the future. As you might see in the photos, the dough does come out in a fun shape but it was not perfect. To me that's ok. Sometimes there will be a pocket of air and the cookie will look broken or missing a pedal or two. So I can't imagine that this would work for a professional setting but for making a bunch of small cute cookies to take to work or hand out to friends, it's really perfect. I did follow the instructions and I believe that if you do that, things will turn out well. I did try using it on parchment paper once just to see what would happen and the cookie will not stay on the sheet. So it is important to use an ungreased sheet pan. I believe the reason they say to use a cold cookie sheet is that if the sheet is warm or hot the cookie dough will melt quickly before it gets in the oven. I might be wrong about that. But I did use a warm cookie sheet because I only have two sheets and I was making so many cookies that it was taking a long time for the sheets to cool down. But the great majority of the cookies came out perfectly fine. The first cookie out of the press will likely not come out well but that's okay. You just take that no and put it back in the press and keep going.

Great cookie press
I’ve only used this twice so far but I love it! I make whipped shortbread every year for Christmas, and have always wanted a cookie press to be able to make cute shapes for friends and family. I used a silicon baking mat, as I read that cookie presses don’t usually work well with parchment as the paper will lift up and mess up the cookie. Silicon mats worked great though and I didn’t notice that problem with it. The press is super easy to put together, and I don’t notice a ton of resistance when I press the cookies which is good because I read they do break relatively easy. I would say that this is definitely for a lighter cookie dough, and not suitable for anything that’s tough like gingerbread or sugar cookies. The little holder for the press plates is absolutely adorable, and works great to keep things organized. The first batch of cookies I made with this wasn’t quite right because I halved the recipe and there was too much butter and not enough flour or sugar. The cookies surprisingly still held a relatively good shape despite this! The second batch I made was perfect though. I used the snowflake and tree, and was worried the snowflake would be difficult to distinguish since the cookies sometimes spread. However, they held up very nicely and they did spread a little, but the shape of the snowflake was absolutely still there. I would say that if your cookies aren’t holding their shape it’s not the press, but rather the recipe. This press is also so easy to clean! The top and bottom both screw off, and I put a small spatula in to scrape off any excess on the sides and then handwashed it. I believe this is advertised as dishwasher safe, but can’t say how it would hold up as we don’t own a dishwasher. Overall, this is a great purchase and if you’re on the fence about it I would say go for it!

This gadget is amazing. No more rolling out dough and cutting out ...
This gadget is amazing. No more rolling out dough and cutting out shapes and removing all the surronding dough and rerolling this dough again, now gone tough, putting them one by one on the tray, measuring the spacing between them etc. This gadget is an absolute pleasure. It will save you so much time and each cookie is so perfectly identical to the next with factory type of shape, so much so that people will not realize they are home made! The spacing is automatically done because of the width of the gadget. I really had fun using it. Won't think twice about making cookies anymore. It is a very clever gadget i could not get my head around how it would work and I'm still not 100% sure how it does. It seems that with one click, enough dough comes out so that the seperate pieces join together. It is easy to clean. You wont be sorry if you get it, guaranteed.
