My 7 yr. old son is allergic to mosquito bites, plus I'm concerned about West Nile virus. Unfortunately, mosquitoes love him, and he always get some really nasty bites when he is sleeping. I bought this little unit, and now have peace of mind! I turn this on in his room for about half an hour at bedtime, leaving his door open, then turn it off and close his door. Any mosquitoes lurking in his room have been driven out by the geranium scent. I do the same in my own bedroom, and I am very pleased with the results. The geranium scent is rather strong, but not unpleasant. I don't find it necessary to leave this on all night, so it's not a problem. I also like that you can clip this on your belt and turn it on for when you are outside. It's just a tiny little fan blowing through the geranium scented cartridge, so it is small and light-weight.

We get mosquitos in the apartment at night as we live by the water. They don't seem to bother my girlfriend, just me and the most annoying thing is when they buzz past my ear. Tried the Bite Shield as when I lived in Europe, plug-in repellents work a treat. This works to an extent, but the odd one still comes in. It would seem the refills only really last one or two nights and then the smell is not so strong and the mozzys come in. Rather than spend money on refills, we may as well shut the window and turn the air on!

Okay-this is not the everyday average review. I have been pestered by what I think are bird mites. I came across this product during my research. I have to say that this works like a charm. I place this item at my feet to keep them away during the day and at night in my bed I can actually feel them leave my body and run away. Crazy I know but anyone in my situation would want to know too. Biggest concern: whatever this is made of does make me feel oogy or rather light headed the next day after prolonged use - like I inhaled glue all night. I will need more research into the 'secondary' chemical. But for the most part, it gives me enough relief so I can sleep. Biggest problem, refills are so expensive and hard to get. Buy them while you can.

I live on the beach in Florida, have a screened in porch, and was being eaten alive by no-seeums. I was skeptical about this product's effectiveness, but having used it all summer without a single no-seeums bite, I highly recommend it. I place it on the wicker footstool right in front of me, and those little suckers stay away. The only problem I have had it that I forget to turn it off when I go in for the night, so I have run through several replacement thingers. I am going to order one for my daughter who lives in Minneapolis where the summer mosquitoes on her dock are big enough to carry you away. Don't know how it will work on mosquitoes, but I am willing to give it a try.

A mosquito/bug repellent that's safe, nontoxic, easy to use, has an inoffensive odor, and covers enough area for a table or a hammock: I was sold. Unfortunately, this device doesn't seem to repel anything! I tested the Bite Shield in my garden on a warm afternoon. As the mosquitoes buzzed around my face and swarmed my bare arms and legs, I held the device a few inches in front of me and turned it on. I could hear the fan (very quiet) and smell the geraniol (not unpleasant), but the mosquitoes were absolutely unfazed. They continued to swarm, including in the immediate vicinity of the Bite Shield, and bit me numerous times -- even on the hand that was holding the device! The packaging states that geraniol is 400% more effective than citronella. Well, 400% times zero still equals zero. Very disappointing. I have returned the item, and will use my refund to buy some Calamine lotion.

It works for us. We use it sitting out on the patio and when the sun starts going down the mosquitos come out in force. We used to set up the mosquito magnet but we haven't had to bother with little gadget. Some may not like the smell but it's better than having to grab your drinks and run indoors! I just ordered another one to put on the ground under the table. Two is better than one. Lasts a long time too!

I'm on my second Bite Shield now...I had to return the first one because the fan didn't work while the unit was upright and who wants to carry a plastic box around all day long because you can't put it on your belt loop?! Anyhow, this second unit is "okay", but I really don't think it's as useful as the product description suggests. I admit I was only bitten once or twice while wearing this unit, but I was hoping that my skin would be off the "all-u-can-eat mosquito buffet" in my back yard. I found the smell to be pleasant and very similar to the scent of citronella candles. The fan on my second unit is much better, but it still kicks off on occasion so you really have to keep an eye on it. I guess my biggest "beef" with this product is the fan...I don't understand why its operation is so flaky. Poor product design, I suppose. Anyhow, I gave it 3 stars because it did seem to discourage the mosquito full feeding frenzy, but you take your chances on getting a unit with a reliable fan!

This product doesn't seem to help that much. My husband still comes in with lots of bites from mosquitos. It may help keep the gnats away but it doesn't seem to be working that well although you certainly can smell the product while he wears it.
