Can this be used to harden and protect paper beads without yellowing.

I don't know about yellowing. I used it to stiffen flowers with a glitter sprinkling on top and gave them all away, so don't know the long term effects. I do think it would harden the beads.

Is the smell too strong?

meaning while you are working on something or when it dries? it does smell when you are working on something but not too horrible, it doesn't bother me at all, its just a but and it doesn't smell at all when its dry
