Can it used on a composite ball?

Have not tried it on a composite ball but I think it would work. The only issue is that it wears off really quickly, like after one throwing session.

I can just use this spray to get the grip I need on the ball?

No. Buy the Wilson leather football break in kit. There are videos on YouTube on how to properly break in the ball to increase the grip. I threw away the tack spray did not work for me.
