Worth the investment
I waited almost a year to write this review. I built my house 6 years ago and the builder took a lot of short-cuts. One of which was a 1/4 horse-power single sump pump. With midwest winters and rainy springs, the sump pump would literally take 7-10 days before it would stop bumping water. The sump pump was right below the master bedroom. The amount of "give" between cycles was minimal and the back flow (which caused a loud thud) would wake me up from dead sleeps. I purchased this Liberty pump back in April. To be honest, I thought I wasted a lot of money because I just figured that it was not working. The truth is it worked so well that I did not even know it was on. I no longer heard the back-flow (loud thuds), the generous float mechanism allowed for an efficient flow and it pushed the water away from the house. Before I purchased this sump pump, I used to have to run to the basement and check 1) was I flooding and 2) do I have any leaks in the walls. Since I have had the Liberty Pump, I have had no pressure build up on the outside of the walls and no damp or running spots. I wish I would have known better and demanded a Liberty Pump be installed from the beginning of the building process. Update 06/30/17 I have now had this sump pump for three full years. Last week we had 5 inches of rain in about 3 hours. This was the biggest test yet. When you have a three inch pipe going into the pit and only 1 3/4 inches going out, it was nail biting if the basement would flood. This sump pump ran continously for three solid hours but never once did the water crest and flood the basement. After every heavy rain storm (and we have had plenty this year), I thank my lucky stars that we bought this pump. As an added comment, about a month ago we blew a fuse that impacted the basement and the master bath. We had no idea there was no power downstairs as all the TV and lights were one upstairs. The battery backup beeps when on, so we were able to get power back on without an issue.

Passed a huge test - works awesome
So after having another popular battery backup system fail miserably in a massive rain we had in 2011 I decided not to mess around and got this 1/2 HP Liberty pump/backup system. Well, we just got inundated again with near-record rains in Chicago but this bad boy kept up with the incoming water and our basement was never under any threat. I've had plumbers tell me that 1/2 HP is too much and not necessary for a home but if you want real peace of mind, what's another $100-200 more vs. the conventional 1/4 HP pumps that are popular in hardware stores. Get a 1/2 HP no matter what and get this Liberty pump - she's solid and gets the job done. I believe the backup pump is 1/4 HP but researched the gallons per hour vs. other 1/4 HP pumps and this one taped out as one of the best. Installation is easy. You have to get a deep-cycle battery for this pump which costs around $100 so that adds to the total bill of installing this system but the peace of mind is worth it. Highly recommended!!

Ten years after purchase and still running strong
Other than sourcing a good battery, this is pretty much a drop-in replacement for a big box store pump with one big difference - this one lasts. I live in a flood plain and used to have a 3/4HP pump and always had a second 3/4HP pump brand new and ready to drop in the hole with the turn of one clamp. It was wasteful since I was replacing it every other year or so, plus no backup option. Don't get me wrong they worked well, until they didn't. During one flood, the inexpensive pump ran for 13 days straight without shutting off, so I'm talking a lot of water. This pump replaced those ones and has continued to operate flawlessly without replacement for a very long time. According to my purchase history, my pump will turn 10 years old in a couple of months. The only reason I am reviewing it now is because I am amazed at how good it has performed for so long. If I hadn't been conditioning the battery it has remained out of sight and out of mind.

Tight fit for 15" Basin
The pump seems pretty solid. It comes with check valves pre-installed for each pump. The installation is very easy as it is more or less just a drop-in replacement for the old pump. It is quiet. I don't like the canted pump orientation, because I don't have much clearance in my basin between the basin wall and the backup pump. I have a 15" diameter basin and would recommend a larger basin if you choose this sump pump.

The battery backup is great
It was easy to install. The battery backup is the reason I bought it. Now I don't worry about power outages and my basement flooding if I'm not home.

Impeller shaft corroded off after 18 months.
I bought two of these sump pump units in April, 2014. The main AC motor shaft that drives the impeller corroded off after 18 months of operation. So now I'm waiting for the other pump to fail in the same manner soon. I thought I was buying a quality sump pump, but I'm disappointed to learn it is not. Look elsewhere...

look no further
awesome pump. I went through 3 pumps and 2 battery back up bought at big box stores in a normal amount of rain over 2 years. This pump is built solid and moves the water incredibly fast. I do advise that deespite ther being water hammer valves in this system that you buy an additional one to protect your pumps. Also if your like me and have only one pump well you should have either another pump on the shelf ready for use or a submersible to through in that well in an emergency. I would buy this set again.

Works like a charm
Installed it today. The old sump pump was 23 years old, time to go! Works like a charm. Test both the 120 volt and the 12 volt pumps. Very quiet operation. I’m glad I got the ½ HP model instead of the 1/3 HP model.

Ordered this product to replace a red lion pump. I've never had a battery backup System before but this system was very easily installed. Comes assembled but you still have to tighten everything up. Check valve on main pump is a bit cheap but seems to work regardless. System Worked fine durning testing, empties my 25gallon pit in no time. Hoping for the best durning the next heavy rain fall but I am confident it will do the job. Price is great also, About $200 cheaper than I could buy this system locally for. I got a 27M DC battery for it locally for about $130 tax in. Can't beat it! Strongly recommend this product.

easy install. haven't had enough rain to see it in action but tried it with a garden hose and it worked fine.

Everything comes preassembled, and it's essentially plug-and-play. I didn't actually need to do any real plumbing to get it up and running... I simply needed to disconnect my existing (and dead) sump pump, and drop this one in. The battery box needed a bit of assembly, plus you need to source the battery itself separately (which can be costly, depending on what you buy), but it too is essentially just plug and play. Thumbs up. Solid product.

Easy to install. Tested and worked fine. Need to wait for winter to come for real test.
