Mastering the Nikon D7100 (The Mastering Camera Guide Series) [Young, Darrell] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Mastering the Nikon D7100 (The Mastering Camera Guide Series) Review: Buy and read this book if you have a Nikon D7100! - I agree with all the positive reviews here. This is the second Nikon book I bought written by Darrell Young. (The other one is for the Nikon D90.) He has an uncanny ability to clearly and concisely help the reader understand everything about the Nikon D7100. He gives great explanations for all the settings as well as personal recommendations as to how he uses the camera under various conditions. The book is easy to read and I highly recommend it to anyone who is new to the Nikon D7100. And that goes for first-time DSLR owners as well as enthusiasts and professionals. You owe it to yourself to get this book (or one similar to it) if you want to fully understand your Nikon D7100. This is a very powerful, sophisticated camera with an enormous amount of settings. This book will help you use it correctly and enjoy all it has to offer. I've read a few negative reviews about the D7100 (mostly about focusing problems) and I'm pretty sure those people just don't understand how to use this camera's great automatic focusing mechanism under all circumstances. This is very critical for any DSLR camera. If you're trying to depend only on the camera's owner's manual, you are doing yourself (and the camera) a great injustice. Get this book and read it as you play with your new toy. You'll be glad you did, as it will make you a better photographer! Review: Truly about 'mastering' the camera and using its sophisticated capabilities to make better images. - Well written, easy to follow, thorough. Useful for all experience levels - beginner to pro. If you already know photography you'll skip some of the basic explanations. They're needed for users who are still getting their heads around the fundamentals. Skim through what you know and concentrate on Mr. Young's detailed but clear explanations of this sophisticated camera's capabilities. Every level of user will find value in his recommended settings because he explains WHY they're recommended. 'How' is covered in the factory instruction manual as well as other aftermarket books and guides, but in most 'why' is poorly addressed - or not at all. While I like Thom Hogan's camera guides for excellent 'why' explanations he hasn't one for the D7100. Darrell's 'Mastering the Nikon [camera]' series covers most of the Nikon bodies released since about 2007. Each is an order of magnitude better than the factory instruction manual - cause they include both in depth explanations of settings (more clear and understandable than the factory manual) and why one might choose one setting over another. Recommended.

So much clearer than Nikon's instructions
The instructions take you thru every (well almost) conceivable detail for each feature of the camera. Perhaps I'm being a bit stingy in not giving 5 stars because he doesn't include more techniques / how to examples. Yet there is largely enough information so that one can figure out some pretty technical stuff. By the end of each chapter you understand why and not just "what". I found plenty of geeky information on various forums to answer questions like " max no of shots before slowing down on various memory cards" . that kind of minutiae isn't really needed in this book.. But a lot is there. my wife doesn't like technical stuff she just wants it to work. But if you are wanting to know every nook and cranny this book's for you. If you are wanting to really understand your photo graphic tool. This is extremely well written . before I got it ,I wondered why I should get one... Nikonians talked me into it , and I'm glad they did. you will be too. The nikon user manual by itself isn't detailed enough for me.

A master explains the D7100
Although I like to read before going to bed, it isn't usually technical manuals I choose; and never before have I stayed up almost all night with such a book. This one I could not put down. I've been shooting professionally with the Nikon D7100 since I got it back in April and thought I understood all its functions. Aware of Darrell Young's expertise in teaching the technical aspects of Nikon cameras I ordered his Mastering the Nikon D7100 when first advertised. Because it wasn't in publication yet I ordered two other books from two other authors detailing the different functions and setting on the camera. Neither one or both these other books cover the DETAIL Darrell Young covers. Darrell shows screen shots of every setting so there can be no mistake how to apply them. Later in the book he explains why you need to know these functions. There are so many AH HA moments in this book I'm going to have to read it several times. I found a number of details I didn't know the camera could do and the owner's manual did not tell me about. Darrell did! Spending almost a year working with the D7100 Darrell Young discovered every nuance and function this piece of equipment could produce. If you own or are thinking of buying the Nikon D7100 you MUST have this book. It will teach you every function and setting in easy to understand language and why you are using it. If you want to Master the Nikon D7100 to get the most out of your camera BUY THIS BOOK NOW!

The Kindle version of “Mastering the D7100” makes a superb companion to an electronic copy of the Nikon manual. Young explains each control and setting of the D7100 clearly and methodically. He introduces groups of related settings with the “big picture” view of the particular camera function that is being controlled. Each section ends with his recommended settings and the careful reasoning behind his choices. The book is logically organized and written in an easy-going, pleasant tone. To accommodate varying levels of photography knowledge, Young explores certain advanced or DSLR-specific topics in sidebars. The Kindle version of the book is searchable, which makes it easy to get a quick a refresher or review on a particular topic. I don’t consider “Mastering the D7100” to be a replacement for the Nikon Manual. The manual has extensive details about each control and setting. Young’s book offers the advice and wisdom of an experienced photographer who can help you master the wonderful, complex D7100 system.
