These seem to be paintable too
I bought these to repair some dog agility equipment. Black seemed a better idea than the usual aluminum colour, hoped it would just blend in with the purple rubber granules and the dogs wouldn't see the rivets. Once I received them I thought I would try and see if they could be painted purple to match, if the black coating would take paint better then plain aluminum. Degrease with Brakleen was the only prep, they are a little small for sanding and I didn't know how thick the black coating was. Make sure they are dry, then a light spray with rattle can Tremclad (Rustcoat) oil base enamel rust paint. After drying overnight the coating seems good, doesn't just flake off with a fingernail. I installed over 50 of these 3/16" rivets with a hand riveter and each popped cleanly and consistently with the mandrel breaking at about the same pressure and at the designed fracture point. I didn't have to drill out and redo any. I'll edit the post some pictures after they have been out in the sun and rain for a while, see if the paint holds up.
