Fastatic story and artwork
Much like the other graphic novels the art work and story is great and with all of these books there is a brillant sketchbook part of the graphic novel at the end, with ideas and notes on certain character development. A must for all invincible fans.

A decent addition to the series
If you've read the earlier Invincible collections (and I doubt you're reading the 4th one if you haven't seen the earlier books) you'll enjoy this addition. The events within the book are entertaining and the meta-plot moves along well. This story avoids the annoying deus ex machina moment that marred my appreciation of book 3, although given the enemy Invincible was up against in #3 it's hard to think how else things could have been resolved. Given that Invincible is in a 5 book set as I type this, I'm hoping the authors finalise the story by the 7th collection at the latest. The most compelling of similar stories had an effective wrap-up point, the most obvious example being the Watchmen, and it would be a shame if this excellent collection became an ongoing "series". Currently the story is entertaining and the characters involved evolve effectively, let's hope the creators can take it that way - the multiverse character from collection 3 remains a worry and I hope they have a decent method of handling that beyond collection 5...

Invincible still not pulling any punches
Kirkman's Invincible continues to prove itself as the best superhero story out there. This collection provides more of the amazing storylines and twists with it's perfect balance of action, drama and comedy. The story alone is worth 5 stars BUT I have only awarded 4 due to the book itself. The shiny covering of the book (once the dust jacket has been removed) is not as appealing to me as the previous matte, stitched covering of the previous. Also, the binding of the book is somewhat inadequate. It is too tight for the book to be held fully open comfortably without feeling your damaging it and it makes an unpleasant squeak when opened. I accept these may be seen as nitpicks to others, but it affected my reading experience, though only slightly. Like I said, the story itself is still amazing work and the art is as stunning as ever.

Good book, shame about the casual homophobia
I've enjoyed this series so far, but have noticed a few times that Kirkman's characters are using 'gay' as a term of ridicule. Its frustrating, and really taking away from the enjoyment of the book. Only other thing I will say is that this is up there with the 60s comics in terms of vision and creativity. It doesn't stand alongside more coherent and challenging works such as those by Moore, Morrison, Vaughan, in terms of making self-contained original stories.

The best superhero comic of the decade charges on!
Invincible is the story of second-generation superhero. For years his father Omniman was hailed as the world's greatest hero but eventually was revealed as an alien invader out to prepare the world for conquest. Now Invincible is trying both to live up to his father's reputation and to redeem his father's legacy. In this volume Robert Kirkman chooses to build on his existing characters rather than throw too many new things at the reader. Invincible must face relationship problems, an invasion from Mars, the return of his father's people and a new brother who's growing up way, way too fast. As usual everything is handled in a very grown-up way. Whether Mark is breaking up with girlfriend or fighting a life and death battle it's clear the Kirkman and Ottley have give thought to what will happen and what will make sense. The little touches really make this special. While having lunch with his mom Mark the college student has a big burger while his mother picks at a salad. Later when Mark catches his best friend trying on his costume he flies home and asks his mom to wash it. Twice. In terms of both art and story Invincible is a cut above most comics and certainly the best old-fashioned superhero story of this decade.
