Only if you use the navigation feature all the time,I have found that in normal every day use the watch stays fully charged with the solar panel,however it still charges when you are using the navigation features, you only have to use the charger if the battery drops below half charge.

No. Negative display on both models. It looks pretty awesome in person and I haven't had any issues reading the letters/digits.

I see this is a japan version. i live in america. will it work fine in america???? what the difference between the japan and american version?

Yes, it will work fine in the US. G-Shocks are usually assembled in Japan or Thailand. They operate identically. The ones from Japan do have much nicer packaging, and some claim the Japanese ones are slightly better built.
