Telling Your Data Story: Data Storytelling for Data Management : Taylor, Scott: desertcart.ae: Books Review: Only the unique, talented and always amusing Scott Taylor could have written such a valuable, important, funny and insightful series of arguments, examples and introspections on the subject of storytelling as a driver of successful corporate Master Data Management. It hardly seems logical that a non-fiction business guide, focused on traditionally dry topics such as Data Governance practices, Data Quality tactics, Data Classification concepts and innovative Data Management strategies could be so gripping, interesting and humorously entertaining beyond the super-niche group of data geeks that might be most inclined to check it out. And yet, "Telling Your Data Story" has far broader appeal than one might expect - offering nuggets of value to a wide swath of business practitioners and executives regardless of technical orientation, acumen or expertise. Written in a quick, breezy style, he treads just close enough to the technical to appeal to the deepest of Master Data Management enthusiasts, while quickly pacing through his subject matter with easily-digestible and highly relatable business stories, examples, analogies and anecdotes. Most importantly, Scott connects the tactical objectives of effective data governance with the strategic intangibles of building a business case, communicating the value proposition, engaging the organization, and elevating the executive discussion to apply the critical level of attention and focus on strategic Master Data Management to drive business success. Like many business improvement guides, Scott offers sage advice in the form of numbered lists including the 8 "Ates" of using data, the 4 "C's" of structured data and the 3"V's" of telling your data story. These strategic concepts are easy to grasp and provide valuable insight into actionable data management practices that can help transform businesses and drive positive outcomes. Whether you're an MDM pro, or you're just a business professional with a need to run a smooth operation, Scott's book is a fun, interesting and important read that does such a great job entertaining, you don't even realize how much it teaches along the way. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to better manage their business by more effectively governing their data. Review: I love this book. It is a bew take on data. Not a technical one, but a very informqtive narrative in how to engage stakeholders.

An instant addition to the pantheon of classic data books, Scott Taylor-The Data Whisperer's compelling 'Telling Your Data Story' is a truly practical guide to explaining and understanding the strategic value of good data management. From business leaders to data operatives, make sure this is the number one data book on your Christmas list!

Liked the simplification of terms easy to explain to business.

I empathised with almost all problems described in the book. It helped quite a lot to formulate my data story and come up with more effective presentations. As a data person I only find one inaccurate fact. The book is not 99% buzzword free, I would say it is less than 90%.
