Does exactly what you’d expect and spreads butter with ease

Kinda helps
If you use real butter for spreading then like me you might have been cutting thin slices and resting them on top of the toast to warm up. For butter straight from fridge the small noodle holes are too small for the butter to pass through easily, with repeated scraping it does kinda work but you get a lot of build up on the back side. But the hole on the end of the knife works a lot better, it makes a single medium thickness strand which works quite well. To be honest this is a bit of an unnecessary gadget to clutter your kitchen draws but makes for an interesting gift for the dairy obsessive.

Not fit for purpose
We have some old bone handled knives that we’ve been using as butter knives for the last 30 years or so. Unfortunately, the handles have deteriorated, so I thought replacements would be a good idea. I saw this product and thought that as the majority of reviews were positive they must be pretty good, so I bought 2 of them. We tend to use ‘spread’ rather than butter, only because it’s softer and therefore easier to spread. Because it comes in tubs, the knife would be used at at an angle of at least 45° and in this respect picking butter up is really quite difficult. The majority of the butter (spread) goes through the large hole and just leaves a worm in the tub. Using the knife at a shallower angle is difficult because the side of the tub gets in the way, but if you are successful, then the knife is slightly more effective, but even so a lot of the butter just goes through the little holes . When you can actually get better on the knife and try and spread it on the bread, a lot of it goes through the holes, leaving unspread wormcasts of butter on the bread. I feel that I have really wasted my money with these knives and they are not what I was looking for. In my opinion, butter knives should be like the old-fashioned ones, where you have a large spreading area that has a shallow grid engraved on the face of the blade to grip the butter. My mum has always had one of these and I think it’s the best butter knife in the world. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen any of these types of product on the market. So, to conclude, I feel that this product is really quite ineffective as a butter, knife and therefore I can only award it one star.

Very sturdy knife/spreader of butter. Here in the UK I had to register my credit card to buy it!
