Does it support 720 like it says in description?

The maximum output of wii itself is only 480p. 
But through this converter, you can connect the TV or other monitor which is up to 1080P.
Therefore if your monitor supports 720, then you will get the 720.

Question 2

I just installed a home theather (projector).  This will be plugged into the back of my receiver, will the sound transmit without the audio cable?

Old question, but for future clarification to anyone else, I believe the asker was connecting the Wii to an AV receiver that is then connected to the projector, as is typical of home theaters. According to the specs the audio transmits from the Wii through both the HDMI and the 3.5mm jack. So I would assume you can simply plug the Wii in to the AV receiver like any other HDMI source and the AV receiver will play the sound through the connected speakers. Worst case, most AV receivers allow you to manually select the audio source for a particular input so you can buy a 3.5mm to stereo RCA and select the analog audio input as the audio source for your Wii HDMI input.

Question 3

the wii is set for 16:9, yet the entire screen is not being filled. Is there something else to do?

I was perplexed by this same issue at first. You need to change your display settings on the TV to 16:9 as instructed to by the Wii menu. If you set it to 4:3 and then 16:9 you should notice that the image is still square but the 16:9 setting has everything squished in the middle.

Question 4

Every couple of seconds I get a black screen. Anyone else having this problem?

I have not experienced this, but to get an answer for you, you may want to edit your question and clarify a bit- when do you get this black screen?  From power up?  Is it game dependent?  Etc.  sorry you’re having this problem.  Maybe return it?  Good luck.
