Weber Replacement Charcoal Grate 17" – Fits 22" Weber Charcoal Grills, Heavy‑Duty Plated Steel, Moisture & Weather Resistant, Designed for Easy Briquette Arrangement, Kettle

I have a Weber 22" kettle. I have had this Kettle for twenty years. I keep my stuff nice. I also use it...a LOT. Weekly use year round is very common for my Kettle. I use mine enough that I have replaced the air vents, the top grille, and now the bottom coal grill. CONTEXT HER: Many years ago I worked professionally handling and welding steel construction. I still own a welder, torches and various metalworking equipment. I work steel a lot. I have a reference point, o.k? That said, it is my assessment that this is a pretty nice piece. Well built, dimensionally accurate, spot welds are typical and acceptable quality. IMO, the material is stainless steel. Some people complained that it "wasn't stainless" because "it was magnetic". Well, speaking as someone who knows, be aware that SOME GRADES of stainless steel ARE mildly magnetic. Google it. I'd say that this is one of them. In addition, some people complained that this "didn't fit their such and so" or "didn't clean easily when they cooked on it. IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS IS A BOTTOM GRILLE - for the COALS in your Weber Kettle. That's what they're selling it for. It is not a top grille for cooking, or a fire ring top, or for some other brand of grille, or a TV antenna adaptor, or whatever. It is a bottom coal grill for a Weber Kettle. Period. Sorry to rant a little, but IMO it is not fair to the manufacturer to ding them if their product doesn't work for some adapted purpose. When used as designed, it fits and functions perfectly, and is easily a match for the OEM part from Weber. Take that into consideration when you are selecting one of these. No I don't work for, own, or even know who the heck the manufacturer is. I'm just pointing out that low star rants that ding a product are neither fair to the manufacturer nor useful to Amazon customers. For me this product was Five stars - no issues WHEN USED AS DIRECTED WITH THE GRILLE FOR WHICH IT WAS DESIGNED.

When you own one of the Weber Performer grills with the propane briquette lighting feature, the charcoal grate takes a lot of abuse from the heat. Mine had distorted over the years, but it got to a point where none of my hammering and twisting could set it right. Time for a new charcoal grate. As expected, it fits like a new one, and I now have the novelty of not having perfectly good lit coals fall through. Genuine Weber quality, so I'll get another several years of service out of it.

Update - 4/12/23: So after around 2 weeks of using this grate - it is literally everything I had hoped for - and has rendered two other accessories completely obsolete. This grate is PERFECT for setting up a 2-zone cook area on your Kamado grill. Something that I had previously purchased another accessory for - but at TWICE the price. I had also ordered another accessory to raise or lower my charcoal grate directly from the manufacturer - again - this renders that product useless. This fits perfectly under the top grate and at a distance that is ideal for searing and 2-zone cooking - with no bars sticking out of the top grate. I can't stress enough - if I had thought about this first, I probably would have saved $50+ dollars. If you're on the fence - get it - it's $20 and is likely the only accessory you will need. Original review: As another reviewer wisely mentioned - this charcoal grate is a perfect fit for the Char-Griller Akorn Kamado grill. The tabs where you would typically place your heat deflector stone is a perfect fit for this 17" charcoal grate. This is ideal for times when you want to use direct heat searing on steaks, burgers, hot dogs - or really any food that you want to cook directly over the charcoals. I haven't actually cooked anything over this yet - but I can safely say it's 5 stars because it is well built and a perfect fit - and all it has to do is hold my charcoal - which it absolutely will. If you have an Akorn Kamado grill - and you want your coals up close to your cooking surface - you can't do much better than this grate. It's also a Weber - so you know it's built to last. 10/10 if I could rate it that high. Highly recommended!

I purchased two of these 17-inch diameter grates for use in my Masterbuilt 22.5-inch kettle grill. The grate is originally designed for a 22.5-inch diameter Weber kettle, such as the One Touch Silver or Gold models, but, it works in my Masterbuilt just fine. The grates are constructed out of a thick gauge, sturdy steel, with two cross-bars running underneath the grate bars for structural support. I purchased two grates so that I could place one grate on top of the other, with the grate bars running perpendicular to each other. This creates smaller spaces between the grates, meaning that you almost completely eliminate the chance that small (but, perfectly good) charcoal pieces will drop through the charcoal grate into the ash catcher while you are grilling. The result is less charcoal wasted, as well as a longer and more consistent burn from your charcoal. Until Weber designs a charcoal grate with a grid bar pattern and narrower spacing, this is the easiest and most cost-effective solution to prevent losing small charcoal pieces when grilling. In closing, I will note that the grates came with a coating of dirty machining grease, which dirtied my hands when I handled them. I cleaned the grates off with hot water, soap and a scouring pad before using them. Not a product flaw per se, and, not something that affected performance, so, my rating remains five stars. The grate is made in China or Taiwan -- that's what the printed label says.
