SINGER® M3330 Navy Blue Sewing Machine with Accessories, beginner-friendly

I have had Singer products for years as my mother did before me, so I was anxious to get this product. There is no manual and the one piece of paper guide was not very helpful. I had a terrible time getting this to work. The front loading bobbin was not a big problem as such, but that it constantly jams is. The machine is finicky, to say the least. I actually had to go to YouTube for information since the Singer site was not as helpful as I wanted it to be. I finally had to call the local Singer repair shop for help and they told me the side loading bobbin has some known issues. I am on the 5th bobbin which is finally working and the machine sews ok. But overall I am very disappointed with this purchase. The product was close to $200 and the minimum on repair is $100. Amazon only allows 30 days for a return. I wonder why. I'm adding on here about 1 month later. The machine seems to have worked out all its kinks-or I got better-and now works beautifully. No problem with any of the bobbins I am using and I have completed 5 projects without a hitch. I am totally converted to really liking this machine. It is what I expected from a Singer product.

Took up sewing late in life & bought an older used machine (different brand) from a friend but had trouble with bobbin casing, so I bought this machine for a fresh start. I chose a model on the lower end of the price range, but not the cheapest, because I want to enjoy sewing without frustration. I dont need alot of bells & whistles! Have had it for over a year & am happy with it. I mostly just use it for clothing alterations, repairs & hemming. But have made several items without any issues with material thickness differences, thread tension errors nor thread disasters! This machine has a good variety of stitch designs & is easy to thread & navigate. My only two fusses: The Auto Thread Feature is not easy to use. Needs some further engineering upgrades! I gave up trying to use it. AND The machine does not come with a Manual. C’Mon Singer!!! - How much could it possibly cost to respectively include the Manual? Overall, am happy with this machine.

I am giving this machine just a 4 star for now because so far I am not sure of all of its abilities because a users manual did not come with it. Which was extremely frustrating and disappointing! I don’t understand why one was not sent with the machine. I went on line to singer.com to get one or to at least view it and there was one, but it was ONLY in the Dutch language. So I was able to send a message to singer requesting one. I feel very skeptical about receiving one. I will update this rating in a month or when and if I receive the manual. So far the machine is working great and I was able to watch a video that demonstrated the stitches which was very helpful. Thank God I know how to use the internet and I am literate. Well, I am impressed and very excited because I received an electronic manual from Singer the very next day! So now I can really get into to using my new sewing machine. So for now I am not seeing or experiencing any issues with my new machine. Thank you Singer for responding so quickly. For now, I will upgrade my rating to a 5 star because everything so far seems to be awesome with this new machine. I will write an update after I have a chance to use it for a while.

After finally giving up on my 20+ yr old sewing machine, I went on a mission. I wound up back in the Singer family and I could not be happier. The motor is quiet. The weight of the machine is enough to be sturdy but not cumbersome. It was simple to set up. I can get through my project quickly and efficiently with this machine.

I bought this machine specifically for sewing knits with its stretch stitches, as my “daily driver” is a Singer 301 that only does straight stitching. So far, this machine has worked pretty well for me with only a few hiccups. I think the instructions could better explain that to access the blue stitches, you need to continue to turn your stitch length dial counterclockwise PAST the 0 setting to get to the S1 setting. The self threading needle has been hit or miss for me in actually working, but that’s not a big deal for me. I have yet to figure out how (if) to adjust the presser foot pressure, and my fabric has been sucked into the throat plate several times when backstitching at the edge which is obviously very frustrating. I have experienced the bobbin thread breaking/bunching underneath, but found it was due to the thread coming out of place in the bobbin case (perhaps from stitching too fast?). Simply removing and reloading the bobbin solved the problem for me. While it doesn’t sew quite as smoothly as my vintage machine, overall this was well worth the price of the Prime Day deal. I’m not a professional seamstress, but I do make a lot of things for the home, baby accessories, and more recently, apparel; I think this machine will be more than sufficient to handle those tasks. I’ve made several pieces for my kids so far and hope it continues to perform well for years to come.

I have been sewing for a total of 8 years by my hands as well as a machine. This was by far THE WORSE sewing machine I ever used… ISSUES *it smells like burning wire once plugged in which could be a fire hazard ⚠️ 🔥 * the needle breaks on even the simplest fabric (even linen) * many cases of the fabric getting stuck between the needle and the machine reel (several times I’d have to manually take it out by unscrewing the needle with a screw driver, which results in the fabric getting ripped out). * the thread disconnects every second. So you’re stuck btw fixing the thread every moment! *Summary* It’s suitable for beginners but if that’s the case, then the price should probably drop down to $60-70 and shouldn’t be almost $200 bucks. You could probably use it on a piece of paper to learn. But making an actual dress?!! Terrible idea

I read a lot of negative reviews about this machine, but I had already ordered it at that point and was just waiting on delivery. I was nervous about keeping it but I decided to and I’m so glad I did! This is the most reliable starter machine and I love it! It does everything I need it to and probably more. Great value for the money!

Easy to set up, smooth stitching, and handles thick fabrics well. Perfect for quick fixes and creative projects. Highly recommend! Switching between stitch types is simple, and the controls are intuitive. Great for both experienced users and those just starting out.

I followed everything mentioned int he manual. did some basic straight and zig zag stitching almost perfectly one day. Next day was stitching edges of a not so very thin , but medium thickness bed sheet, the needle started jumping on its own to zig zag from straight stitch and immediately I could here a thud noise form inside and the upper thread snapped. Checked the bobbin, there wa some thread entangled inside, cleared everything and then tried zig zag stitch. it worked for some time before the upper thread snapped. Then tried straight stich. The thread kept on breaking every 10cm of stitching. I was using polyester thread from Madura Coats. One of the best thread available. Some alignment inside the machine has gone wrong. If this is the built quality and workmanship of Singer, I will never buy a Singer product. Please stay away from any Singer sewing machines.

As an absolute beginner to machine sewing, I LOVE the Singer MX 231. It is simple enough to use right out of the box, and powerful enough for basic projects (I made a small quilt top within the first 48 hours of owning it :O). For absolute beginners to machine sewing, there is a steep learning curve -- I thread the needle manually, and have endured MANY thread jams as I tried to sort out tension and how to pick up the lower bobbin thread. (Best suggestion -- leave the factory settings along, tension of 4 is perfectly fine, anything else is disastrous :) Unfortunately the machine does not come with a print manual, I strongly advise you look at the manufacturer's pdf version, and although the quick start guide is enough to get going, it it not enough for beginners to understand their machine. I found YouTube tutorials essential (a shout out to 'LydiaSewsThings' for getting me through). My recommendations for success in using this affordable machine include spending time 'playing with it', make a few dozen rows of straight seams, and use premium polyester thread and decent fabric (DO NOT USE CHEAP DOLLARSTORE THREAD, OR IT WILL JAM FOR SURE). I HIGHLY recommend the Singer MX231 for beginners -- it's an affordable entry point into machine sewing and a powerful, reliable machine that will be perfect for small garment construction, crafts, and basic quilting projects. I love my new Singer, and hope you will too.
