Two of these locks work great on my GunMate Range Bag
I tried unsuccessfully to find padlocks to use on the zippers of my GunMate Range Bag from Amazon.com to keep the contents of my range bag safe and secure from prying eyes and fingers. After looking at how that range bag was made, it suddenly came to me that the 14" Master Lock Cable Gun Lock would be a perfect fit for that application. I ordered two of the locks, keyed alike to make it easier to unlock them both with the same key. When they arrived (in just a few days), I opened the locks and threaded them through the holes in the zipper pulls and through the bag's shoulder-strap hardware, then slid the cable end back into the lock. My GunMate Range Bag's contents were now safe and secure. While the lock's wire cable would be no match against a bolt-cutter, I don't often encounter someone walking through my house or rummaging through my car's trunk with a pair of bolt cutters in their hands. So I now feel pretty secure about the contents of my range bag. Thanks Amazon.com!

it getsthe job done...
I bought this to buy a firearm in California. I currently live in Idaho, where the gun laws are night and day. the fact that I HAD to buy one of these irritated the hell out of me, especially considering the fact that the place I bought the gun from made me buy one of theirs (even though I had the lock with me, I did not bring the receipt, which in CA means I don't have a lock....WHAT?!?!) now that I've vented... if you need/want a lock, this is a good one. not top of the line, its basically a small/thin bike lock, but sturdy enough. it won't survive repeated blows from a hammer or crowbar, but enough to keeps small kids at bay.

Bought to secure helmet to motorcycle
I just bought a new expensive full face helmet and I needed a way to secure it to my harley street glide versus having to carry it around when stopped or trust others won't walk away with it if unattended on my bike. I chose to use this to secure through the chin strap loop or whole chin guard to a solid point I could loop on the bike. I think I can make do with it but most likely will get the next longer version since not a weight adder and can easily stow in the saddle bag. Lock seems to be of good quality and enough to deter average theft or falling from bike to ground. Will not stop lineman's type pliers but if they are that motivated I'd rather them do that than damage the more expensive bike in their theft. Great product can't go wrong as a easy to use deterent.

That's about right.
I wish I had listened to the other reviewers about this lock. It is very, very poor. I used it as a lock for a motorcycle helmet and it worked twice. After that the key would no longer work in the lock. It wouldn't even go in. Winchester makes a gun lock like this for about the same price, and it works smooth as silk. Buy that one.

Usefull for other applications
I like that it is light weight and portable. I use it to secure my motorcycle helmet to my bike. Helps to keep honest people honest but due to it being light weight and portable I'm sure that if somebody wanted to steal my helmet they could. But since this is not the advertised use of this product I honestly cannot take away from its intended usage. Good value for the $$

Good price for a small cable lock
I bought this for my garden hose, not a gun, as I live in an apartment where anything loose outside disappears. It's not long enough to go around all the loops of it but is enough to fit through the hose hanger and around much of the hose. This is good enough. Most vandalism is stuff that can be grabbed easily. Master locks are fair quality. If someone wants it they will cut the cable first.

You get what you pay for
First off, these locks are incredibly cheap, as you can see by the price, but it is not only the price that is cheap. Unlike many gun locks of this style, when unlocked, the cable doesn't spring out, and must be manually pulled. Of course in order to unlock it, one has to fiddle with the key that somehow has trouble going into the lock. Turning the lock has a loose and cheap feel to it also. I bought 3 of these that were "keyed alike" and only got 2 that used the same key, while the other was doing its own thing. Of course you might wonder, do they even work? The answer is yes. I can't say I have put any major stress on them as I don't really want to break my new gun lock, but they locked and stayed on my gun when I put them there, so unless someone REALLY wants to use your gun, I'm sure enough that it is safe. The item works, but for the cheap build quality and lack of keyed alikeness, I'm giving this a 3. For $5 I'd say that they work alright though.

Master Lock product made in China
I bought 8 of these all keyed alike. As they are Master brand locks I was expecting typical Master Lock quality. They are NOT the high quality that Master has always been known for. These locks were made in China, poorly. If I had known that these were of Chinese manufacture I would not have bought them. Like so much other mechanical stuff that needs to be made to fairly tight and consistent tolerances, these Chinese goods just don't "have it".
