Today on Y’all Have Got To Read This is about "The Winemaker’s Wife" by Kristin Harmel. @kristinharmel OMG! I loved this book. If historical fiction is your cup of tea, you will love this one! As a lover of history, I am down for any book set in France during WWII. The book is so well written. I really enjoyed how the story went back and forth from the war years to the present day. I devoured this book in about three hours, but the scenes and the characters will stay with me forever. Harmel did such a good job of making us feel the fear and intimation of living through the German occupation. While there is a little intimacy in the story, it is done tastefully. I gave it two chili peppers. For the sheer beauty of writing and the gripping twist and turns, I had to give the book five stars. This is a must read if you love WWII stories. I found the book moved slowly, the irresponsible Inez, left me angry most of the time. The other characters were believable, I liked them. The last portion of the book brought things together and began to click, but still so much was so hard to believe. Worth the read though. I like the author.

I LOVED this book! It had a beautiful storyline with the most memorable characters. The ending couldn’t have been more perfect! I thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend it, especially to people that like books set during WWII.

It's 1 of those novels that you cannot put-down. I haven't read a good Story like this for a long time. You will think about it long after You are done reading it.

Ok, so I did love reading this book. As is common nowadays, the author jumps back and forth from the past to the present which is a technique I do enjoy, particularly in this book. My only critique is that while I recognize “artistic license’ in telling a story this book went a little too far in believability with regard to age of two characters and their physical abilities. Even shaving off 10 years would have been better though may not have coincided with the dates. Don’t want to say anymore because I don’t want to ruin the story for anyone. I loved The Nightingale and was advised that this book is similar and would not disappoint and that is completely accurate. Am now going to read her book with Rue Amelia in the title after also reading The Book of Lost Names. Kristen Harmel writes much like Kristen Hannah and for some reason I’m drawn to novels set in France during WWII and the Holocaust. Anyone sharing my feelings will love this book.

I found it difficult in the beginning to read because of the two separate stories going on for nearly half of the book. But it was a good tale presented during WWII.

Although the Winemakers wife is a very intriguing story, there were portions of it that were too graphically violent , too sad and too immoral for me. The story held my interest, had many twists and turns, and resolved in an interesting way. But I found that I had to skip over some of the nazi violence and just couldn’t swallow the justification of Celine’s affair with Michal through most of the book. Then too, Michals wife Inez, blamed herself and was blamed for the consequences of that, but it seemed that the origination of most of the heartache, betrayal, and violence was Michals coldness toward his formerly beloved wife, Inez, and Celine’s unfriendliness toward her. Added to that were Michal and Celine’s feeling that they were entitled to their affair because they loved each other and not their spouses. True, Inez acted in a foolish way as she repeatedly drowned her sorrows in alcohol and caused great tragedy, but those foolish drunken acts were triggered by Michals coldness and affair. In addition, the ending included a suicide, that seemed glossed over with justification, but in reality was tragic as all suicides are, and very sad because it was caused by the despair of someone unable to receive Gods forgiveness or to forgive herself. So although, I enjoyed the story, there were times I had to put it aside due to its depressing themes and blasé immorality.

What an amazing story. I felt as though I knew them all. Understood them. Such a terrible time in France's history. You can really relate to the strength and courage they needed to survive. Brilliant book.

Harmel presents her characters with love and intelligence for who they are and why their actions are so important to them. She also does not underestimate her readers. The novel has an excellent story line while providing interesting historical information. Very smart and witty writing. I absolutely loved the The Winemaker's Wife.

I have read this one multiple times and love it every single time. Such beautiful storytelling and the twists in the plot keep you turning those pages one after the other.
