Great splitting tool !
I already had the 36 inch model but wanted this smaller 17 inch Fiskars for splitting kindling. The head is a bit smaller and lighter than the longer handled Fiskars splitting axes . And that is good because I wanted something lighter . This works great - it is sharp and the way the head is designed it the wood pops apart . This is replacing a smaller hatchet I had that also had a shorter handle. No problem choking up on the handle on this if you want to not grap it at the very end - it works well . The other reason I replace the old wood handled hatchet is the head was always coming loose. This one is molded on and should not ever have that problem. I tried it on some bigger chunks of wood - not huge - it won't do that of course but it does split some medium size pieces of wood no problem . But mostly I use it inside near the stove just to make small kindling for the fire. I very much like that this is made in Finland - what can you get made in Finland these days. Most of the other Fiskars stuff is now made in China so nice that this still is sourced at their source. Great quality tool

Great ax/hatchet.
This a perfect sized hatchet for one or two hand use. It doesn't appear to have such a great cutting edge on it but it is sharp and it cuts surprisingly well. I looked at a lot of hatchets and I'm happy I chose this one.

Great camp axe
Bought this as an axe to take camping since it seemed like a good axe that packs well given it's size. Out of the box it's plenty sharp and makes it really easy to shave off small strips of kindling for starting the fire and performed well as it's intended purpose of a splitting axe. It's not the cheapest axe of this size you may find, but it's well worth the money for a quality tool. The included protective sheath is a nice touch as well.

THE GOOD STUFF!
I have been a fan of Fiskars products for a long time. Ever since I bought the left-handed version of their excellent stainless steel scissors. As a card-carrying tool freek, I seek out well-designed, quality tools. Before buying this axe, I examined regular axes by Estwing and others in the hope of finding a single axe to meet all my needs. Apart from quality issues,(burred cutting edges, rough finishes, etc.) it was clear that they did not provide enough of the wedging action required for log splitting. This Fiskars splitting axe is worthy of the highest praise. It has great balance and finish, a beautiful solid feel and, due to the intelligent design of the head, it excels in its dedicated purpose: splitting wood. I'm using it to split ponderosa pine (easy) and piñon (tougher) that our firewood supplier brings. The axe head comes with a good edge, well-protected in transit by a durable plastic storage sheath, and has flared cheeks to provide good splitting action. Something you don't get from the profile of a conventional axe. The wedge profile also means it will not perform well as a general-purpose axe. Not a problem! Now I have an excuse to buy a matching conventional axe from a company that delivers well-made, well-designed products. (And hasn't used globalization as an excuse for throwing quality overboard.)

Good quality
Good quality for the price. Great for camping trips and small enough it doesn't take up much room. Good purchase.

Great Mid-Sized Axe with Impressive Performance
I've been using the Fiskars X11 for about six months now, and overall, it's a reliable tool that delivers solid performance for light to moderate splitting tasks. This axe really shines when splitting smaller logs (under 10 inches in diameter) and kindling. The weight distribution and design of the blade allow for clean, efficient cuts with minimal effort—perfect for someone who doesn't want to swing a full-size maul for every job. Pros: Excellent balance and swing efficiency: The hollow, fiber-comp handle keeps the weight low while allowing for a fast, controlled swing. Durable materials: The handle is virtually indestructible, and the blade holds its edge well with regular maintenance. Compact and easy to handle: The 17-inch length is ideal for one-handed use or for those with less upper body strength. Cons: Not ideal for larger logs: It can struggle with thicker, knotty rounds where more heft or a longer handle would help. No sheath included: For the price, it would’ve been nice to have a proper sheath instead of the basic plastic cover. If you're looking for a portable, well-built axe for smaller jobs around the yard or campsite, the Fiskars X11 is a strong choice. Just know that for larger firewood splitting, you may want to size up to the X17 or X25. Still, this axe punches above its size class and has earned a permanent spot in my tool shed.
