I bought this machine and have never used VR for anything. All of the games I play are not VR games. This machine is great for playing games that are not VR games.

What is the specific Ram type so I know which to buy to upgrade to 16gb?

I don't know of every system the build for this process has different motherboards, but mine came with a ASUS PRIME B360M-A Motherboard and it supports DDR4 RAM at 2666mhz. Always double check your parts, but any DRR4 2666MHZ RAM should do.

Does this unit come with the necessary cables to connect an hdd?? Or do i have to separately buy the sata cable and power cable??

No extra SATA cables. No caddy or rails for mounting an HDD either -- and no obvious place to buy them from. Probably safer to install an SSD instead and just velcro it in place.
