Longing for Something Bigger From the Eisner Award-nominated Inio Asano, creator of Solanin and Nijigahara Holograph , comes one of his most challenging works yet—an intense teen romance set in what may at first glance be one of the sleepiest places in Japan. When Koume and Keisuke’s relationship begins to take shape, it is apparent that they are both searching for something. Maybe Keisuke wants something more than a kiss from the fair Koume. Maybe Koume is looking for someone better than Misaki, the local playboy. But what they find in each other over the course of a summer might be far greater than anything they were expecting. Their lives are going to change. And this will all transpire before high school exams! Review: An intimate, painful, beautifully illustrated story. - Koume, a popular girl dealing with the universal confusion and loneliness of finding that one is simultaneously powerful and powerless when it comes to sexual awakening. An older, dandyish boy crush (Misaki) forces Koume to perform a sexual act on him - she desires him, but is traumatized by this act of sexual violence, and is too embarrassed to tell even her closest friends. She tries to regain a little bit of control over her own sexuality by starting a secretive sexual relationship with quiet outcast Keisuke, a former classmate who is dealing with the trauma of his older brother's death by suicide, which he blames himself for. Koume and Keisuke's relationship evolves from her using him as a way to regain her sexual power after being rendered powerless by Misaki, to Keisuke finding his own confidence, power, leading him to confront the bullies that tormented his brother, and ultimately to move on from Koume and the pain of being stuck in the prison of his own depression and self-hate. Resolutions aren't so neat for Koume, but you get the impression that she's learning to open up to those who care about her, and that the kid will be alright with time and experience. The most difficult part of the story for me was how Keisuke becomes physically abusive to Koume towards the end of their relationship, and its heartbreaking. Review: Beautiful, and sexual - Inio Asano is a genius when it comes to creating breath taking imagery to describe a situation, he's amazing. The imagery and metaphors found throughout this manga are a plenty, and I find myself staring at each and every page for quiet a while. This story is a coming of age in a modern setting that is like none other I have read, it's simply gorgeous and I suggest everyone to at least peak inside to see what it's about. It covers the topics of teen romance, bullying, finding your sexuality, suicide and depression, family issues, and growing up. Although be warned, some of the images are definitely 18+ as there is quiet a bit of sexual interactions between minors, so if you are uncomfortable with that, this might not be your book. Overall though, I am proud to have this beautiful manga on my shelf.

great story, amazing artwork, and good quality
no rips or tears or worn down edges, which is something common on manga online sadly. the artwork is amazing, this mangaka has honestly the best panels out of any others i've seen it's crazy. the vibe of the story is so comforting and it feels like a realistic depiction of what it's like to be the characters their age, coming from a 16 year old. would recommend 100% and I will be buying more from this author

realistic manga about heartbreak and moving on
caution, this manga features multiple sexual encounters, and subjects about suicide. A girl on the shore isnt a manga with an overly complex storyline. In fact, it’s a story showcasing the feelings of a girl getting over a love. within this manga you’ll find yourself as an outsider looking into an experience, a distant memory with randomly placed moments throughout this moment in her life. a story so relatable, of pain, of the consequences of life, and learning to let go. a story of emotional trauma and unavailability. a story of surviving the pains of love. in the end we’ll be okay, a story of letting things be. a story of letting things go. this isn’t going to be the best story you’ve ever read, but instead you’ll be reminded of something bittersweet, and even that is special.

it was such an interesting read and me still being in my teens and being able to relate to both sides it really made me interested in reading it was very good but yet after reading it i did indeed have the urge to burn it haha (it’s because of how relatable)

It put me in a melancholy mood
The boy is unscrupulous and unruly in a way. The girl pretends that she is a decent girl at school and at home. What was the creator trying to say? I did not get it. Overrated work.

A must read from Inio Asano.
As a total fan of Punpun, downfall and Solanin, I loved this piece of art. It will dive you into a lot of situations and experiences like no other manga will ever do, recommend you to read it.

Unexpected Masterpiece
I bought this to prepare myself for Goodnight Punpu and wasn't expecting much, but it ended up becoming my favorite manga. I never thought a story this short would make me feel an intense set of emotions as this one did. Explicit content by the way.
