I got this item to replace a 10 year old same model First Alert carbon monoxide detector. Old detector working fine but I decided to replace it. Fortunately I never had a CO leakage but I checked the test button every few weeks to ensure it was working.

Instructions were clear. Easy to install with a drill bit. Fits flush to the wall. Battery worked great.

I bought two of these to replace some older CO detectors which were nearing the end of their lives. I haven't tested these units for accuracy but I have no reason to believe they will not work. Installation was simple. Just put the batteries in and plug in to the wall. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because I don't like that the "everything is ok" status is a solid red light. Red light = bad! in our society. It would be much more comforting to look at these units and see a solid green light when all is well, especially when that's how my smoke detector works. When you're getting these set up, I'd recommend first noting the dates of manufacture printed on the back to get an idea of when they're going to need to be replaced. Both units I bought were less than a year old. Also, test that battery that comes with the unit to make sure it's good. Test the unit when its unplugged and when its plugged in to make sure it beeps.

Works! Bought a new house and decided to put this in basement utility room. Few days later on a cold day it started going off intermittently. Called fire station and sure enough our boiler was improperly vented to outside so carbon monoxide was leaking in every time it ran (heated garage floor). They also found a gas leak when here too so this little thing saved us.

These manufacturers know how to put a great product together and also how to package it. Our previous First Alert carbon monoxide detector from 2019 started chirping 5 chirps. A Google lookup indicated it was indicating the end of its service life. Wow! Pretty cool. So I stayed with First Alert for replacing our two units. Both arrived in under a day. And you know how most plastic wrapped items are difficult to open without slicing your fingers? Not these. The back of the package has a perforated pulldown tab to open easily. And they even provide a new battery. Totally legit Company placing the customer FIRST, for real.

CO is a silent killer - get a monitor to alert you if it’s accumulating in your home. Especially if you have gas appliances, but even if the only CO emitter is your car in the driveway. These are affordable enough to provide peace of mind at a cost that won’t set you back. Take one with you on trips as they’re travel friendly as easy to plug in a hotel or Airbnb. An entire family in our town died of CO poisoning in their home overnight a few years ago. We won’t take any chances with it now. This product is as big of a no brainer as a smoke detector.

Ended up getting this sooner than expected. It is so easy to ready and replace the old one. Very happy with it.
