The short answer is call your dentist first to check.  I would show this device (or information on this device) to my orthodontist, and check with
him or her.  My dentist told me that sometimes, these guards (if not properly  fitted) can throw your bite, or gums severely out of wack.  You do not want your gums to unduly recede because you put a guard on top of braces and abraded the delicate tissue around your gums.

I have just spent about $15,000.00 on dental surgery (I am over 60 years old).  The reason I had surgery is a) I didn’t wear my retainer regularly at age 16 after my braces were removed, and then b) I lost my night guard, and didn’t wear it regularly at age 48.

So here’s the important thing to remember about your teeth: a): Your teeth are a reflection of your overall physical health, if there is an infection, if you are dealing with bone loss from osteoporosis, if you try to correct a misaligned bite yourself you can cause trauma to your jaw which will ultimately loosen your teeth, and cause bone loss over your lifetime.  If any part of your body/skeletal system or muscles or tissues are traumatized, irreversible damage can result.

The take away is thusly:  Every cell in your body has a memory, and your body will try to correct trauma by absorption (which might result in bone loss of the
upper or lower mandible, scar tissue, or the production of chemicals to fight/correct trauma).  If you try to do this by yourself without the help of a professional it is the equivalent of trying to conduct an appendectomy on yourself.  So don’t do anything without calling your dentist or orthodontist.
