Great product as long as you get one that works right out of the box
(5 stars as long as you have a working switch on your product.) Bought as a "used" product from amazon warehouse deals. Product was complete, new in original packaging. HOWEVER, Clearly the reason it was in the warehouse for discount sale was because it was DEFECTIVE! The switch mechanism would not work. Would not hold in the "on" (cook) position when lever was pressed as it is suppose to & would pop right back to the warm position. However, fortunately I had the understanding & know how to make appropriate adjustments to fix magnetic switch lever & shortly had it working properly. Bought this product to replace my old non stick Aroma rice cooker which the coating was badly peeling off of and had a pot made from aluminum. Happily, found out that this new stainless steel pot was actually the same exact size pot & lid as my old cooker & fits in my old cooker as well! Which means my old steamer & lid & cooker are all usable parts still! I am taking a chance & buying another warehouse deal of these so that I can have another to use. I have wanted an extra pot to cook in while one is stored in the fridge & a second one would be great. I wish I had known about & had one of these years ago. I really like this product. It is simple but effective. You can cook as little as one cup of rice in it at a time or much more. I wanted a larger pot because I use it for far more than rice. It makes oatmeal quickly & so easily. Other uses include, pasta, potatoes, soups, vegetables, shrimp, hotdogs, etc... Anything you might put in a pot on the stove to boil, you can make in this cooker. The bonus is, if you happen to walk away because of a phone call or interruption & forget you are cooking, once the water boils off, the bottom of the pot warps slightly from the heat, pulling away from the magnetic switch & the cooker switch releases turning the cooker to warm mode. Therefore the bottom of the pots contents only browns slightly but does not burn. The stainless steel with just a slight browned food stuck to it is much easier to clean than stainless with burnt on food!! Plus, in the warm mode, I can slow cook soups & other things in the pot for a whole day or more. I just cover the lid a bit more w/ a towel to keep the heat in better for slow cooking. I was happy with my first rice cooker from Aroma & thought it was a great invention, only I wished it wasn't a nonstick coated aluminum pot. In all of my other cooking I only use steal & cast iron & was not happy to have to use aluminum & non stick coating because of all the characteristic problems as well as health concerns with those materials. I was happier to find they offer it with a stainless steel pot!! Same great cooker made even better!! Plus the stainless steel pot "should" last for years & years longer then the previous aluminum not stick pot. I recommend this product to all my friends.

Excellent, safe, affordable option for preparing baby food!
After weeks of an exhausting searching for a safer alternative to plastic baby food cookers, it dawned on me to get a metal rice cooker. I am so glad to have found this once! Could not be happier with this purchase!!! Some of the reviews made me hesitate buying it, which led to several more hours wasted on reading reviews. If you are a parent looking for a safe and convenient alternative to plastic baby food cookers, don't waste your precious time and just get this thing. This little guy takes care of all our baby food steaming (with an additional SS basket I bought), boiling and thawing, and does a stellar job with rice. You don't have to watch it while trying to watch you baby, it goes to "keep warm" mode once the water boils out. The price is unbeatable, considering I was ready to drop close to $200 for a European brand baby food cooker because it's the only one on the market with a glass bowl. The additional steaming basket seemed a little pricey, and I could have probably done without it just by using a mesh basket we already have. But the proper one works well and looks nice. Here are a few counterpoints to previous reviews. Hope these save you time and money. **No problems with spitting & spattering, sticky, starchy rice goo coming out of the vent hole** Just rinse the rice before cooking, people! The white flour that coats rice will form a thick foam during cooking and start pushing up the lid regardless of which rice cooker you use if you don't wash the rice beforehand. The video attached to one of the reviews clearly shows thick foam bubbling up because of that. It's not so noticeable with large rice cookers where the foam doesn't reach the top, or pressure cookers/Instant Pot where you never see the foam once the lid is locked. But it is there. **No problems with coating coming off** The bowl seems like truly a stainless steel one. I don't scrub it aggressively enough though to see if there is coating that would come off. **Size is too small** It is a very compact appliance, and that is wonderful for something that sits on the counter top every day.

Aroma Rice Cooker - Would Recommend - Works Great
I have an old rice cooker/veggie steamer that I received for Christmas many decades ago that still works great. But the inner liner(or pot) is 100% aluminum. And we know that aluminum has been linked to Alzheimer’s. So now that I’ve switched to a Whole-Foods Plant-based diet/lifestyle, I eat tons more whole grain brown rice. The inner liner of the Aroma Housewares rice cooker is stainless steel! Score! And it cooks brown rice perfectly!! It is as simple and easy to use and clean as the old one. Measure the rice with the included cup & wash the rice. Place it in the pot. Fill with broth or water or a mix of both with the same measuring cup. Place the cover on. Plug it in. Push the button down to cook, and 30-40 minutes later you have perfect rice! You simply add extra liquid (1/2 to 3/4 cup) than normal white rice and let it sit on warm after the timer ends to give it more time to cook. You just have to experiment. The first time I cooked whole-grain brown rice per the chart and recommended water, it was just slightly chewy. So per the instructions I just added a 1/2 cup more water and left it sitting on warm. That did the trick to finish cooking till it was just perfect. The second time, I added more water than the first time and let it sit 10 minutes after the timer ended. Perfect rice! I haven’t cooked quinoa or barley yet. But they are in the cooking chart in the book it came with. I can’t wait to try cooking other grains! Update: Now that I’ve used this rice cooker for a couple months, and about 6-8 times, to cook long-grain brown rice, I can say it’s a great cooker. And I saw the other reviews that complain about the cooker spewing water everywhere. That DID happen to me the very first time I used it. But after that, it never happened again even when cooking more than I did that first time. The first time I only used 2 cups of uncooked brown rice, and yes it did spew and starchy gloppy water went everywhere. It boiled over. But the next time I used it, I placed it in my sink anticipating a mess. I cooked 3 cups uncooked the second time, and NO MESS. The next time (3rd time) I placed it on my counter with a triple layer of paper towels underneath it, and again - no mess! So maybe it is some sort of coating that is scrubbed or cooked off, after the first use. Yes I did wash the inner pot when I unpacked it, before first use. So that may be the reason. But I’m here to tell you it hasn’t happened since. I highly recommend this rice / grain cooker. It’s perfect!

Well-designed rice cooker
Great rice cooker. A good size for one person, but of course it can work for up to three people. Works perfectly and is well designed. Spatula feels good in the hand and is the appropriate size for the inner pot, so scooping works well. Nice! (Note: This model does not come with a steam tray.)

Healthy, tasty results, easy to clean
Makes great tasting grains! Spray first and use chicken broth from home instant pot cooked chicken breast for added flavor. I love the stainless steel - super easy to clean. Pair with wooden rice paddle! Unfortunately, adding an extra inner pot is as much as buying two units. Love having a second pot for both this rice cooker and my instant pot

Wonderful rice cooker!
For all those who complained about the rice cooker making a mess, it's not a big deal. I grew up eating rice and helping my Mom cook rice the old fashioned way on the stove. Rice is a starchy product and even with washing and rinsing, it will still make a lot of bubbles (when boiling) containing some of the rice starch. I received my Aroma rice cooker on March 29 and gave it a test whirl by using 3 cups of white medium grain rice. Surprisingly, there was hardly any mess from this quantity of rice. The rice reached the lid while cooking which may have prevented the bubbles from forming and "spitting" out the steam vent. The rice was very well cooked. The next day, Saturday, March 30, I cooked a single cup of white rice again using the provided plastic cup. Much to my surprise, and even after thoroughly washing and rinsing the rice 3x's, the boiling action created the bubbles which then reached the steam vent on the lid and splattered a little water out of that vent on to my table top. It's really not a big deal, again, because rice is a starchy food item and I've never cooked rice either with a pot on the stove or a rice cooker that did not have some splattering of water while cooking. For me, the real test is how well the rice cooker cooks rice. This model did an excellent job with my 3 cup and my 1 cup tests. The rice was very well steamed and delicious. I own a larger Aroma rice cooker from Costco which has a lid that latches. No messes with this kind of a lid, but the capacity of that cooker is too large for my reduced family size. I've owned other brands of rice cookers and they also had some water that gets splashed around while cooking. The other plus about this rice cooker is that when I went to register the cooker at [...], I clicked on spare parts and noticed that they sell a replacement stainless steel cooking pot for $9.00. I don't know of too many rice cookers that come with a stainless steel cooking pot which was a big factor in my purchase. Most cookers come with an aluminum pot or an alumuminum pot coated with a non-stick surface. Like others who have commented, I prefer the stainless steel and no exposure to aluminum, nor, exposure to peeling or flaking non-stick surfaces. I strongly recommend this cooker for a small family, couple, or anyone watching their diet and requiring smaller quantities of cooked rice. I haven't tried brown rice yet but I will soon and may revisit my comments about this rice cooker and its ability to cook brown rice. Note that the supplied instruction booklet says not to use the measuring lines in the pot for brown rice. Brown rice requires more water so you'll have to follow the instructions for cooking brown rice in this cooker. 05/28/2013 Update Some of the reviews complained about splattering from the vent in the glass cover. I found that I could use a regular or soup spoon to cover that hole and lean the handle of the spoon on the handle at the center of the cover. The concave part of the spoon faces the hole and the handle leans on the cover. I've done this several times and the cooking process (vibration caused by boiling, etc.) does not make my spoon fall. No more splattering! Also, as others have noted in their review, if you leave this cooker plugged in after it's cooked the rice, it's on a warming cycle, but, it causes the bottom layer of rice to stick to the bottom of the pot. So, I've timed my cooking cycle to about 22 minutes for a cup and a half (your time may vary), set a timer, when the buzzer goes off, I unplug the cord immediately. Of course if you want warm or hot rice, this action won't do. However, if you pull the cord, the bottom layer does not stick and your clean up is easier. I love this cooker. Makes perfect batches of rice everytime!

Very high quality product
I love the version of this rice cooker with the stainless steel pot. I previously owned the cheaper non-stick pot version, and I really prefer the stainless steel model for several reasons. It's such an amazing high quality product for its price point. It really punches above its weight. The way it looks is a huge upgrade. The stainless steel is really pretty and well made. I keep it on my countertop because I use it often and it looks so nice. It's one of my best looking appliances. Even the base portion is higher quality looking than the non-stick version. Another reason I like it is the stainless steel handles the dishwasher better. So far I've had no issues putting it in the dishwasher. It completely retains its shine and finish. With the non-stick version, the bottom of the pot was really cheap and would erode in the dishwasher. My fingers would turn black when I touched it. Yet another benefit is that for both this version and the non-stick version, the rice at the bottom would burn slightly. With the non-stick version, the burnt rice comes right out, but with this version the burned rice sticks. I see this as an advantage actually, because I prefer to leave the burned part in the pot so everything I take out is unburned. Cleaning is no issue, I usually soak it a bit. But even if I don't soak it, it always comes off easily in the dishwasher. I really love this gadget! In addition to rice, I've started making quinoa in it, and that comes out perfectly as well. This is my 3rd aroma rice cooker I've owned and the best one yet!

Seemingly good quality but there are several issues
This made in China cooker shipped and arrived quickly in good packaging. No damages. I liked the stainless steel inner pot and the glass lid as well as the small size. It is just the right size for my wife and me. It cooked just fine, no problem here. Here are some issues that I ran into right away: While the stainless steel inner pot and the lid are made of good quality material. I can't say the same about the rest of the cooker. The legs are made of very thin and cheap plastic and they are riveted to the bottom. If anything is going to break first, I'd guess it would be the legs. The cooker itself appears to be constructed with thin metal material. I suspect the inside such as the heating element and wiring are the same subpar quality materials. There is a vent hole in the lid. During the course of cooking, the steam and fluid vented out of the hole and made a hell of a mess on the countertop. I'd put the cooker by the sink with the vent hole pointed toward the sink to reduce the amount of cleaning. After the cooking is complete, the switch popped to WARM automatically. It stayed in that mode for hours after cooking. I eventually unplugged the cooker before bed because I didn't want it to be on like that all night. The very simple instruction doesn't say how long it'd stay in the warm mode. It actually says to unplug when not in use. Also it also says not to leave it in warm mode for more than 12 hours, and it doesn't say what happens after 12 hours. Our 30+ year old made in Taiwan cooker with an aluminum inner pot is still working just fine. But it doesn't have any of these annoying issues. We bought the new one simply because of the stainless steel inner pot. I am very surprised and disappointed that not only 30+ years didn't improve the quality and the usability of a very simple cooker, but it also took several steps backwards. We don't want to continue to use the aluminum inner pot of the old cooker. We may consider returning this new one. Hope this helps.

WRONG PLUG FOR EU
This cooker is advertised in the Dutch Amazon store but does not come with a plug that fits European outlets. It is an American plug.
