Fixes Slow-draining Vessel Sinks
I ordered two of these, one bronze the other brushed nickel. I incorrectly ordered the brushed nickel without overflow, so I had to return it for this one with overflow. These are excellent quality items in both material and finishes, and the price is great. I've already installed both. Although there are no instructions with the item, it's very easy and straight-forward. For any first timer, you can find a you-tube video to tell you how. My problem was my existing vanity sinks came with a regular "screen" type drain cover (i.e., 19-hole strainer), and as with many vanity sinks, it took a long time to drain or you had to help it by rubbing your finger over the top of the drain. I researched the issue and did not want to have to install a vent under my small sink, so I went with the stopper approach. This works great ! it reduces the splatter when the water is running, and it drains immediately because the stopper creates a vortex effect in the drain preventing the air from being trapped. So, this is the solution if you have a vanity sink that isn't draining properly or quickly. I should note that it comes with 2 rubber seals. Initially, I applied one between the bowl and the drain hole plate, with plumber's putty underneath. It worked fine, but seemed to hold a small amount of water in the bottom of the sink. When i installed my second one, I used only the plumber's putty and did not use the upper-most rubber gasket/seal. Works great now, with very little water remaining in the vessel bottom when the water is cut off. This is actually due to my vessel design, which allows the rim of the top drain piece to set slightly higher than the slope of the drain in the vessel. If these products are typical of KES, then I will continue to order from them, because the items are excellent quality and price.

Retrofitting is easy enough.
A very pretty oil brushed copper colored pop-up top to look at when gazing into sink. There are a few installation tips, as I installed two of these, so will mention what worked best for me as it does require a bit of retrofitting. My sinks were standard 70's seashell sinks WITH OVERFLOW so important to order this drain for overflow sinks. I used just plumbers putty on one drain install, and NOT THE TOP silicone seal, and this made the metal drain ring sit down into the drain better and holds water just fine when pop-up is pressed down. This is a standard drain and will fit all basic vanity drain holes, esp by cleaning/scraping out old rings and residue. Underneath where ring nut is against bottom of sink, I did have to use a bead of silicone otherwise it leaked on both drains, but silicone takes care of it. Let silicone harden before running water through, if you can be patient. It's good to have 12" long channel locks to really tighten everything down. Good luck!

Right product for the job
Easy to install, works well with no noticeable leaks so far, and is a reasonable price. Overall, I'm happy with this purchase.

Attractive. Works great. Cheap gaskets - buy better ones from the hardware store before installing...
This product is attractive and highly functional. The price was great at ~$16 ea on Amazon. I have purchased 4 of these - 2 in each of the double sink vanities for my 2 upstairs bathrooms. The seat gasket supplied with the drain is loose fitting and flimsy and leaked on the first two sinks - both of them. I bought replacement seat gaskets for $2/ea at the hardware store and didn't even try using the ones supplied with the drain on the next 2 sinks, I just reused the old gaskets. The standard ones at the hardware store are a little smaller I.D. than the O.D. of the threads (40mm = 1.57"), but its rubber, so a little elbow grease and a little lube... Also used plumbers puddy instead of the top gasket supplied. Throw out the cheap gaskets supplied and just use the hardware, and it works fine. The Kohler and Moen versions are about 5x the cost. I'm sure those gaskets are fine, but I'll pay the $2 at ACE hardware and use a little plumbers puddy to save ~$60 each. First 2 have been in for 8 months with no issues. Put the 2nd set in last week. 4 days now and no issues. If you are handy and can make it work, go for it. If you are not comfortable improvising to make it work, maybe spend the extra money for the premium brand...

Great aftermarket fix
Needed a replacement for the old (plastic) Kohler drain. This is considerably better quality. Easy install. Durability will be tbd, but thus far very happy.

In the end, everything got installed with no water leaks. It’s a nice look and fits together snugly. As others have suggested in their reviews, I assembled the pop up drain assembly and it started leaking. So, I took it all apart, and closely examined each part. It turns out the silicon gasket immediately under the pop up drain was affixed backwards initially. I reversed it and put everything back together, and this time no leaks. The kit includes some Teflon tape. I’ve always been told my plumbers that one can never go wrong with Teflon tape, so I used it on all the metal threads, which I’m sure helped. Also, it’s good to snug everything down I used channel lock pliers, and they put all the fittings together like a charm. I have installed KES drain parts before and they are reliable and work. For those that don’t think there are any instructions, that isn’t true. There was a small folded set of instructions that explained how the parts all fit together and there is also an illustration on the Amazon web page. It’s one of the things that drew me to the KES products in the first place - in the past, I have ordered plumbing parts and as I’m only a DIY’er , it’s really frustrating not receiving instructions on how to put the parts together. All told, I’m super happy with this pop-up drain and highly recommend it.
