This works, worth buying...
Good field sharpener for your tools...axe or machette. I have used it on a cheapo Harbour Freight hatchet, a Fiskars axe and a bushcraft machette....got a good edge on all the above. It seems durable, keeps your hands safe and is reasonable to carry in your tool box, etc..

Fantastic working edge !!!
This is FANTASTIC for beginners that are looking to keep (or add) a working edge on their equipment. I uses this to sharpen a few machetes' and a new PARATECH Pry-Axe. This made quick work of the machetes, and they are shaving sharp. The PARATECH... well... if you know what it is, then you know what I'm workin' with, it was awesome, but at a cost. It erased all of the forging marks on the blade. This thing just strips away steel, when it has too. It made the Pry-Axe worthy of splitting wood. However, it cost me the original carbide blades on the sharpener. Not a bad deal, given the amount of metal that had to be removed, and that replacement blades are available. . NOTE: If you are working with a long blade, try to secure the entire length of the blade. If not, you'll see "chatter" marks in the unsupported section. This is due to the blade resonating. Not a big deal, still sharp. You can live with it, or support that section of the blade and just hit it again with the sharpener..

Smith's 50582 Axe and Machete Sharpener
I bought this when I also purchased an axe that I intended to chop up tree limbs from yard work to dispose of in my smallish trash bin which is picked up weekly and I need to make debris as small as possible for allowing me to put my household garbage bags in also, so chopping up limbs up to an inch to even bigger, to get less than 12 inch pieces would require me to hack them on the ground, thus dulling the axe. I misplace it immediately in the over stuffed garage and it took me a month or two to find it again. I am happy with the purchase. I like it and it works well for me, for the axe and my machetes. Also, the little wire brush is cute and you can change out the carbide blades as needed. I agree with most of their claim: Smith’s - Smith’s has been a trusted name in the sharpening industry for over 125 years. This Works Great to Sharpen Sword Blades!
Several years ago, I bought a decent replica of the US Dragoon's 1840 Saber, once called the "Old Wristbreaker" for good reason. As with most such replicas, it has a stainless-steel sheath and blade, and that blade was exceptionally dull, also for good reason. These reasons I naturally chose to ignore, instead first searching for a tool that might make its sharpening feasible, before proceeding to brown the brash steel. Your devise was "discovered" and almost immediately ordered, arriving in record time, and was promptly inspected and put to work. I first fixed the blade in my vice, using the pads, and soon discovered that it functions much like the old kitchen sharpeners of yore, only being much larger and, ergo, capable of sustaining a sweeping carry down & up vast portions of the blade while applying steady pressure. My initial goal was to give my sword an edge, hopefully somewhat even, while taking my time to learn how to shave the least steel for the greatest effect. I initially believed I might be at my bench vice for hours over days, but was delighted to achieve that first goal, a decent even edge, in only four hours or so over that many days. I strongly recommend your Sharpener to any and all who have long bladed tools/weapons, no matter how dull!

Really bites into dull blades.
Bought a cheap camp axe and ran this down it a few times and now it takes chunks out of trees. It is easy to use and very safe. The size is perfect to pack along. It feels really well built. I can't believe the difference it made on that dull axe. You can feel it grab the first couple of passes then smooth out. That's when I knew it was sharp. The value you are getting with this is wonderful!

Failed short of expectations
I purchased this for sharping my hatchets and machete. On one hatchet it did pretty good - about as good as I could have done with a file but it was a lot faster. The other hatchet I just couldn't get a sharp blade and ended up having to use a file to get the results I wanted. Performed well on the machete. For me it was okay but disappointing that I couldn't get the sharp edge I was looking for ... again the operable word is "I" and it may well meet your needs perfectly.

Great Sharpener!!
I am a land surveyor and we use brush hook and machetes on a daily basis and I wanted to try a new method of sharpening our tools so I tried this Smiths Sharpener. It has performed nice and puts a sharp edge on everything hell we used it on the shovel just to see what would happen and WOW!! I will never bhy another brand! It also came with a built in wire brush and have not had a slip accident like the smaller sharpeners are notorious for..

Para cosas basicas puede servir, pero no hace milagros. Al final tuve que cambiar el machete porque no me sirvio para recuperarlo.
