Dropped daily (on concrete mostly) sometimes 3 times a day and it still works.
This is the second one of these i have. I bought the first one based on; that was the only one i could find with rubber encasing the ends protecting the light. I drop this often for my job and it can take it. I spent 100's of dollars on flashlights. One day i was on the Snap-On truck and asked Snappy if he had a Snap-on branded light with warranty and i was willing to pay a lot for it. He gave me a light, (not Snap-On) and that light lasted a good 3 years and i was prepared to keep buying those. They are extinct now. i tried100's of dollars worth of lights again, and found this one, it is the winner. It has two light settings, and there is no separator off between the brightness settings. Bright hi to low then off. It is chunkier than my other favorite, but i will live with it. I have noticed battery life is pretty good even after the batteries are low. I turn it to low setting 90% of the time and the light is good enough for everyday. I haven't dropped it in liquid yet, but the sealing quality seems very good. The barrel is larger than 1" but i will mount it on a Sub2000, with a light plume comb of some kind probably a ring of RTV. The name area is a reduced diameter with nice bevels on each end. Thick o-rings with low durometer would make nice shock absorbing mounting elements although will have to be a high mount to maintain ray parallel to barrel. The switch is about 9/16 diameter, and the soft rubber resides about .080 under the level of the protecting rubber around it. The switch will toggle at about .060 with a comfortable press force. The rubber grommet on the switch end is such that it could be easily found and be turned on in complete darkness. There is no sharp edges to cut you.

I own 4 of these! Well, 3 that work!
UPDATE: While I still like this flashlight, one of the lights had a battery leak inside the holder which destroyed the actual battery holder inside the flashlight. The inside of the flashlight is like new! I just finished calling Ray-O-Vac directly and spoke to a representative about purchasing a new battery holder for this light! I was advised that ROV does NOT provide replacement parts for these flashlights! I should have held onto the battery and filed a claim with the battery manufacturer, but I didn't. Now, since ROV provides NO replacement parts for this flashlight, I have an almost $20 flashlight that is worthless! Just a word to the wise!! I own 4 of these Rayovac DIY3AAA-BE Virtually Indestructible LED Flashlight. These are VERY good flashlights! I cautiously bought the first one to see if it held up per its manufacturers claims.....and it did! So, over time, I hav purchased 3 more! There are two brightness settings controlled by the button on the end of the flashlight! The first setting, when new batteries are installed, is very bright and will easily illuminate an area 75-100 yards away. The second setting is about half the brightness as the first setting. Using the brightest setting, the flashlight will eat thru the 3-AAA batteries that are installed in it within an hour. Using the second setting does double the amount of time the batteries last. Of course, AA batteries would have made the flashlight last longer, but the flashlight would have to be larger also to accomodate these batteries. They are very durable flashlights and would recommend to others.

Rayovac Virtually Indestructible 250 Lumen 3AAA LED Flashlight
Rayovac Virtually Indestructible 250 Lumen 3AAA LED Flashlight with Batteries (DIY3AAA-B) Rayovac Indestructible Flashlight Rayovac Virtually Indestructible 250 Lumen 3AAA LED Flashlight with Batteries (DIY3AAA-B) $17.00 on Amazon [...] The Rayovac 3AAA Indestructible 250 Lumen flashlight seems like a perfect, everyday around the house flash for every type of user. I was attracted to their claim of indestructibility and a Cree lighting element, And while I would have preferred the Rayovac 3AA Indestructible for this chore, because I prefer the AA battery over the AAA battery, they were out of stock of the 3AA. The reason for my preference for the AA is that the AAA battery delivers approx. 1/3 of the energy of an AA battery. That means when you are using a AAA battery, instead of a AA battery, you are paying 50% more for your batteries while only receiving half of the juice. That said, this flashlight looked interesting and might be a keeper, even if it is a Rayovac product, which have constantly failed me in the past. If a flashlight catches my eye and the price point is good, that flashlight usually has me hooked. OK. Lets try the Rayovac Virtually Indestructible 250 Lumen 3AAA LED Flashlight. I was willing to give the Rayovac a try, hoping that if could meet my basic criteria of a flashlight to be hardworking, durable, boasting long lasting LED and no internal voltage leaks. At first sight, the Rayovac Virtually Indestructible 250 Lumen 3AAA LED Flashlight seems like a good flashlight for anyone who wants a solid, reliable flashlight. This could be a standard bearer for everyone in America to have in their emergency drawer for when the power goes our or in their car. A bright 250 Lumens for when you want to chase away the darkness and a lower power 20 lumen output as an energy saver. I would suppose most people will be more comfortable with the 250 Lumen mode as it is strong and fresh with the Cree LED kicking out a nice bright beam. This flashlight seems solidly built from an aluminum frame and a hard, seemingly durable rubber casing around the flashlight head and button tail. The button seems sturdy and has three modes, 250 lumen, 20 lumen and off. Of note here is that I like to leave batteries in flashlight and turn the end cap a half turn to disengage the battery, insuring that there is no battery drain and the flash is ready to go when I need it. You can NOT do that with this flashlight. Bummer. Also of Note is that this unit, like most industrial products, is made in China. Which could be good or not, depending on how much Rayovac cut corners on internal electronic design. I really like a flashlight of this size to have a pocket clip or eyelet for a wrist teether and the Rayovac has neither. The warranty is another selling point as they claim a lifetime guarantee. Try to find it on WWW.Rayovac.com - it will take awhile, they hid it under the contact header. If the guarantee is so fantastic, put it on you main page and blast that fact to the world. You will sell more! Worked on me! Having had this flashlight for one day, I will have to put it through a few weeks of night time walks with my lab/ridgeback mix and see how it performs. Out of the box the Rayovac Virtually Indestructible 250 Lumen 3AAA LED Flashlight seems to be a decent, solid flashlight, with a great price point that everyone who is looking for a good, personal flashlight would be happy owning. Perhaps Rayovac is turning the corner and designing a quality product that isn’t just garbage like many of their past product lines. Time will tell. PROS CONS Price @ Amazon $17.00 delivered Would Prefer 3AA 250 Lumens @ 3 hours Packaging hard to open 20 Lumens @ 39 hours No Clip or Eyelet for teether Hard rubber ends Made in China Aluminum body Rayovac batteries Stands on end Guarantee hid on website Seems to take rough handling well Water resistant ANSI FL 1

good product at a decent price.
Not one of the most expensive flashlights out there but it sure lights up the back yard! It's exactly what I was looking for. It uses batteries, not rechargeable and I like that because in a power outage I can just pop in fresh batteries and continue to see.
