Will this work to tape my area rug to my living room carpet? Will it keep it in place?

Will this help the stopping of the edge of the carpet from rolling up?

Yes, I would think so! It should definitely help keep the edges from rolling.
I would try to roll the edges the opposite way first to stretch the threads a little, then attach the tape and press onto the floor where you want it. and maybe even weigh it down with something heavy like books, etc, for a few days.

Could you tell me the exact width? I've purchased another carpet tape in Amazon, but it was not 2". It was 47mm.

Will this tape pull off paint or stain?

I guess it’s possible depending on the paint and if it’s adhered well to the painted surface or not. This stuff is sticky I’m not gonna lie. I just pulled it up off my laminate wood flooring and had to kinda push one corner of the tape to get it to roll up a little to be able to pull it off. Although I’m sure it’s possible you could use something like goo gone, rubbing alcohol or maybe even vinegar to dissolve the glue for easier removal and lessen the chance of damage to the surface it’s been stuck on.
