Can they be used on chalkboards?

these are the best for chalkboards, the colors are so bright... i love them.

Why is 'chalkboard' in the description if the package says not to use it on a chalkboard?

it barely registers on black chalkboard, marks are faint on chalkboard, guessing because chalk is so hard. Not impressed by this item at all, was looking for soft, smooth chalk.

Is this the soft kind of chalk?

This is regular chalk only in different colors. I hope you have better luck then I did. It was delivered from UPS and half of the chalk was broken:(

What is the advantage of this over regular chalk?

It is very thin- not great for little kids. I myself could not draw without breaking it. The bright, or bold sidewalk chalk is best in opinion for how well it shows up and easy to draw.
