Puccini And Pasta

I'm not usually interested in greatest-hits compilations, but this one is different: it's almost all Jose Carreras, in the gorgeous fresh voice of his youth. A few selections are by other singers, but this disc could really be titled Carreras Sings Puccini. Extensive highlights from the Colin Davis recordings of Boheme and Tosca and the ravishing Butterfly duet with Katia Ricciarelli are the best things here, and they make this disc worth having. It shows how beautiful a voice Carreras had before illness - and the ambition for heavy roles - struck him. At the low price, this is the best Carreras' Greatest Hits out there.

I have been an opera fan for years and from time to time I give this CD as a gift to people who are curious about opera but never really listened to it. It is a collection of opera's 'easy listening' songs; they are beautiful melodies, well performed, and easy to love. I still love this CD.If you don't know much (or even anything) about opera but you are open to finding out about it, I highly recommend this item.

Beautiful music, powerful voices, however, not the "background music" I was expecting. This is music you have to sit up and listen to. I need to read the descriptions more carefully in the future!

Selections cover most of Puccini's operas with a variety of singers--tenors, sopranos, including selections (one each, from Manon Lescaut and The Girle of the Golden West), a wonderful treat for all Puccini lovers.

This is a wonderfully rich compilation of various opera stars singing in their prime, spanning the period of the years 1966 - 1996. It is to be savored and treasured.

I would imagine anyone who enjoys opera, really likes Puccini's operas. I certainly do and this CD is a steal

play it often at night when I want to relax, love the selection of songs. Highly recommend for opera lovers and those who love good music

I am trying to learn to love opera as much as the music alone. This is a good start.
