How do you buy refills...are they specific to this product or will any refill work?

I bought extra blades but have not had to replace any yrt.

Is there a way to lock the retractable blade?

No. The holder is more than tight when you retract the blade into it. I've been using these blades for years,and keep one in my back pocket at work. Never had a problem

Is this product good for cutting carpet?

No! This is a box cutter and I use it to cut my paper boxes only. Look around and look for hand held cutter especially for aiding in cutting Carpets. They are out there.
