Rune Factory 4 Special (Nintendo Switch)

Missed out when this was released on DS back in the day. So relieved it was relaunched on Switch. A fantastic pick up and play game. Super cozy and fun repetative loop. Definetly the best in the series and holds up extremely well compared to the recent Guardians of Azuma release. What a blast.

RF4 is one of my favourite ever games. With the rerelease on Switch I'm so happy to see the series being revived again. If you're a fan of Stardew Valley or Harvest Moon you will love this game. It's very very similar to Stardew Valley with a lot of the core mechanics, but it has a lot more depth with the combat mechanics and dungeons, and slightly less of an emphasis on farming (though you can fully throw yourself into farming if you wish!). The port to Switch could have been done a bit better. While it runs very smoothly and seems very gentle on the Switch's battery, some of the graphics could have used touching up as there are a couple of jagged edges in the backgrounds of environments in some places - you can tell that this game has been upscaled from the 3DS graphics and hasn't really been revamped. There are a couple of UI choices in the port that are a bit questionable too in relation to text size but nothing that impedes gameplay. I wholeheartedly recommend this game, it's super chill and a great game to hold you over until Animal Crossing comes out!

Rune factory is an amazing series and great for anyone who enjoys cozy games like stardew it has a fun cast of characters to meet the game has many aspects from monster taming to farming which fits seamlessly into the game play would recommend

I poured 150h into this game in record time. The character are well written, the gameplay is great for anyone who enjoyed Stardew Valley. The battle system more advanced but very jRPG oriented, so it won't be to everyone's taste. The end game content requires a lot of grinding and as long as you don't get some better gear, you will hit a brick wall several times in the game. Apart from that, every single character is a delight and got me way more invested than I expected. I left the game mostly completed with a heavy heart since I didn't want to leave the characters in the village, but the journey was really enjoyable. I just don't like when something this good ends

Game is part of the Rune Factory family. I was looking to play an updated Rune Factory Frontier (not available on Switch). This is a very similar look and feel, same RPG format, same mix of farming, cooking/crafting, chats with villagers, requests and monster hunting. Slightly less farming input, no Rune chasing & balancing. Overall, there is a lot of empty space conversations, and progress feels on the slow side. I still enjoy the format, and am spending far too much time on this game!

Not for me unfortunately, it’s not the worst but I don’t like the gameplay mechanisms or even the characters.

By far the best installment yet. There is so much story to this game and layers of play and mechanics hidden within. I love the random town events which make you feel like your living in part of an actual town. The cast of characters is great, the town management system inspired and the thought that's gone into the forging system, weapons and magic is just crazy. Amazing game. I'm looking forward to rf5!

Whether you're a returning player from the 3DS version or discovering it fresh on Switch, this game offers that rare combination of cozy comfort and genuine challenge. It's a masterclass in game design that respects your time while constantly offering new reasons to dive back in. La serie di Rune Factory è sulla cresta dell'onda da anni e ci gioco sin da quando avevo il Nintendo 3DS. I primi 3 capitoli mi erano piaciuti tantissimo e quando è uscito il quarto, per Nintendo Switch, non ho potuto fare a meno di acquistarlo. Il gioco non si discosta dai precedenti capitoli, per cui se conoscete la saga di Rune Factory non c'è molto da dire se non che il 4 vi garantirà moltissime ore di gioco. La longevità non è l'unico pregio di questo titolo, che si dimostra profondo e divertente e che mi auguro preceda un quinto capitolo. Se non conoscete il mondo di Rune Factory, guardatevi qualche video recensione e capirete perché è così amato.
