Can i just use this on the ground or a table or do i need to mount it?

Really needs to on a table. I use mine on an old Black and Decker workstation. Drilled 4 holes in the top to mount it with 4 bolts and wing nuts and hold it securely. Its quickly and easily removed and transported. Works great

The pointers used to set angles, are only held down by a screw. How do you ensure they are always aligned correctly

The only way you can do it is check they are calibrated correctly with a set square but I have found as long as you make sure the screw is tight they are never out with in the tolerance guid line of 2mm
