I have a 65 Cadillac Eldorado 429 cu. in. it currently has an external round resistor that sits on the coil will this work in place of the round one?

If you're talking about a cylindrical silver part with a single lead, then no, that would be a noise-suppressing capacitor used to keep your car radio sounding clean. The 8214 ballast resistor limits voltage to the coil to help it live longer. Hope that helps.

Will it work on a 1959ford F100

This will work with points and a conventional coil. I used these on my older cars. It’s .8 ohms and would also work with a universal coil intended for points. Don’t use a blaster 2 coil with points. its built really for a CD ignition.

this worked fine and is still working

Get two of these...just in case; this worked fine and is still working, old Dodge trucks are notorious for blowing these out, it is much cheaper to keep one in the glove box instead of a tow bill.
