Great Comfort, Great Value, Poor Convenience
I took the risk in buying this headset that has seemingly zero support and not a big crowd that actually owns it. Every article I could find on the thing was mostly just talking about the Kickstarter for it. I only managed to find two videos of people doing a mic test and the only other video was some crazy audiophile crapping on this headset because it's not as good as his other $300 headsets (no duh??). After using it now for two days I can say there are some things that I wish I would've known before buying this as they would've made me not buy it. First off, the mic quality is both good and bad. It's weird to say it that way but it's true. The mic is clear and crisp, but it lacks any actual depth. I feel this is in part due to the fact that the "stereoscopic" mic doesn't come out more than an inch from the actual headset itself and it stays behind the corner of your mouth so the audio pickup is very indirect. There is no boost settings for this mic either and it has a large amount of static electrical noise which is quite annoying for a headset that so generously boasts that it has "electrical noise cancellation". There is built in toggle-able noise cancellation but don't bother with it because the moment you turn it on the mic goes from "Okay this is a fairly decent mic!" to "Wow this sounds like Logitech..." and for those of you with some experience of Logitechs headsets you know what I mean. That tinny, nasty, compressed sound that Logitech just can't seem to fix in any of their headsets. Overall, the mic quality is good but it gets shot down by the fact that the "TELESCOPIC" mic won't go past the side of your cheek and a lack of good noise cancellation. The next thing that isn't so clear is the driver setup for this. The manual doesn't do much justice for telling you what you need to do and it wasn't until after struggling for two hours to fix the sound that I found out the headset uses a C-Media driver / software combo that introduces a few useful settings for everything except your mic. In the software there is a generous amount of options to enhance your listening experience. There is a built in equalizer and the headset can go up to 24B/98000HZ which with the 53mm drivers it is a fantastic listening experience after tweaking some things. You'll find the headset naturally leans towards the bass side of the spectrum and lacks any real natural treble sounds. So the EQ comes into play for that. The digital surround sound works really well for a headset. In all honesty, for $50 this headset is a good deal. It has a good balance of mic quality and audio quality. For the convenience side of things... where do I start? The folding headphones are great if you travel a-lot and are continuously moving your working location around BUT for working at a stationary position (like at home, or at work for extended periods of time) the folding headphones are a pain the hakuna-matatas. You have to fumble with them to put them back on and they roll around in your fingers, makes it a bit of an unnecessary hassle to put them on. The braided cable is very itchy and feels more like a hard plastic than anything. So be warned, don't roll the cable up or it's gonna stay like that forever. As previously mentioned, be ready to install a driver software and tinker with the audio for a good while. The mic also by default is enabled with Studio input instead of Mono and will only record the Left Track at first. So be ready to change that as well. I feel this is not necessary for a gaming headset. So overall, it's a great value and a unique style. The mic is good but has limiting factors.
